Where would you rate Patterson if you he got the nod over Quarry and Ellis?

Well, it would not change my rating of Floyd.
BUT giving Floyd the decision in the second Quarry fight would open the door for a fight against Thad Spencer. Now that would have been interesting, as Spencer
stopped training after the Terrell fight. If then Floyd beats Spencer like Quarry did, we would have Floyd Patterson v Jimmy Ellis for the WBA title. (Well we can always dream)

 

That explains Spencer’s sudden decline after the fight.

 

I like Floyd but there are people who see another side of him. I recall Mike Tyson in his book claiming that Floyd never paid Cus money that was rightfully his. In other words, he cheated Cus. The fine newspaper writer Jack Newfield said that over the years he came to respect Liston more as a person and Patterson less because of Floyd's "phony" side. He didn't elaborate.

 

My point is he had an easy path to the title. He was a good heavyweight but not an atg
