I agree that he probably wouldn't have fought Pacquiao (until about now or later). Arum likely would have kept them apart; allowing Pacquiao to enjoy his hot form and Valero to fuel off the hype and amass a run of impressive wins. And because of the TR-GBP beef that immediately ensued, I think Valero would have been sectioned off from the likes of Khan, Maidana, Ortiz, etc. He most likely would be (and have been) matched with Rios, Alvarado, JMM (since he defected from GBP), Bradley, etc.

And during all of the above, he would have easily picked up a title at 135 and maybe 140 if given the chance to.

Well he would certainly not be undefeated as Arum was lining him up for Pacquiao right about the time that fateful night occurred

Given his lifestyle i think Valero would have tasted one defeat and probably called time, this would have happened against Pacquiao for sure, another fight that would of happened was Valero Rios, that was nailed on, a fight Valero would of excelled in and flattened Bam Bam IMHO

Providing he came under the TR school of protecting there assets, he would of been fine if he held his personal life together, something that clearly was never going to happen

And I understand those that may think he was overrated, didn't beat anyone, etc. But he was on the verge of stepping up in class. He just didn’t give himself the chance to prove his worth.

As to how good he was, or good he could have been, the De Marco fight is a good point of reference. We all know how tough/decent De Marco has gone onto become, and Valero toyed with him like he was nothing.

Arum was telling anyone who would listen that he's devastated at Valero's passing because none other than Manny Pacquiao was up next @140

He had a title @135, WBC

I agree he would of definitely fought Rios

One of the best, imagine if he fought someone like Khan the glass would be everywhere. Really did rate his boxing skills and ferocious knockout power - think I had him as an avatar at one time obviously before he killed himself and wife, shame his being a person skills were right down the shitter.

But mate, Arum’s not exactly known for sticking to his word, is he . Sure, he referenced Pacquiao-Valero a few times, but that wasn’t a guarantee that he’d match them immediately. He’s a promoter. He knew what he was doing when saying, “I’m looking at Valero to face Pacquiao, what a fight that would be, eh guys!”. It serves to build the new guy’s name off the existing superstar, in the hope of eventually matching the two when the event becomes larger than life. Akin to what GBP did with Canelo back in 2010 when touting him as Mayweather’s next opponent. So yeah, I’m not surprised Arum was devastated/disappointed when Valero killed himself. He lost a potential megafight and a solid 135/140 name that would have earned him a good bit money and negotiating power with TV companies, promoters, etc, over the next few years.

Possibly a 3 weight world champion, might have a loss or 2 depending on the opposition he faced.

I'm not sure he could carry his power up to 140 so that 100% KO ratio would be a little lower, his power is slightly overrated anyway, most of his stoppages were down to speed & overwhelming aggression.

Edwin was a sick, dangerous man & had he gone to rehab then who knows how the rest of his life wouldve turned out.

I think he would still be relevant today but not undefeated anymore, he would have at least one loss at the hand of Pac and maybe another against JMM would be a decent opponent for Tim Bradley.

I think people just look at his record and label him a crude slugger due to his 100% KO rate. But Valero was much more then a puncher. He had hand speed, skills, heart and a good chin. Looking at the quality in the weight divisions around him he surely would have picked up a few belts and possible superfights with the likes of Bradley, Pac or JMM. Khan would have never went near him!

I think he would have only lost to the elite.
