Tillery says something to Bowe at the end of the round, Bowe punches Tillery in the face who then kicks Bowe back. Bowe rushes him to the ropes, Newman grabs Tillery while Bowe gives him an overhand right on top of that, Tillery was Dqd
The most amazing fight from start to finish was his fight with Gonzalez. They were throwing water glasses at each other as hard as they could. It was a disaster. Gonzalez tried as hard as he could to get into Bowes head and Bowe completely annihilated him. I know it was only Gonzalez but the guy was undefeated and had beaten Bowe worse than lewis did in the olympics. It ashame Bowe didnt fight Lewis.
Yeah, I remember the crazy pre-fight press conference war. Gonzalez was rated at the time, undefeated, huge and with a big reputation. He may not have been good but at the same time Lewis was fighting Lionel Butler and Just*n Fortune .... Tyson was fighting McNeeley .... and guys like Bruce Seldon and Oliver McCall were holding world titles. So Gonzalez was more than acceptable at the time.
Bowe, and maybe Newman as advisor, knew how to get away with certain things--in the Hopkins school of what the ref is blocked from seeing (or worse) is fair game. I recall in Bowe-Golota II, just before Golota throws a couple of ball breakers, Bowe threw one low first. Bowe/Newman correctly surmised that no matter what, Golota could not resist. As I recall Golota was on the verge of being HW champ, if only he would have taken that, given the ref didn't see it, but instant revenge or machismo lost him the title when he threw those couple of low blows. With Tillery, again Bowe fouled first with was it hitting after the bell. Tillery must have felt that if Bowe could get away with breaking any or all rules, he would do the same, threw a kick at Bowe's leg if I recall, and then all hell broke lose, with Newman doing his throat grabbing/holding. Hopkins, according to Winky Wright is the master of this. Winky said that when the ref couldn't see, BHop not only butted and elbowed him, but was also hitting him repeatedly in the jewels.
There's more. Newman was in with the nation of Islam. When Tommy Morrison beat George Foreman, there was talk of a Bowe vs. Morrison match. Newman would whistle the song from the Who, " Tommy can you hear me . " The press and the fans wanted the fight. However it fell apart quickly. Clayton told the press Newman's " new friends " did not want to risk Bowe losing to a white guy. Could have been true. Newman tried to brainwash the feeble minded Bowe. He wanted the next Ali for political reasons. Bowe had no interest.
Holyfield was a much better opponent than Morrison. Bowe had just fought two easy ones. I still don't get what's so bad about Newman. So, he was in with some of the NOI - big ****ing deal.
He may have not been a major bad guy in the big sceme of things, but he was a low class piece of racist **** any way you want to look at it. He was garbage.
It seems Both Tyson and Bowe were 2 innocent angels taken advantage by their managers/promoters...funny thing is both come from brownsville, Brookly, apparently the worst place on earth, im surprised 2 streetwise guys could do that 3 of boxings biggest wastes of talent come from Brooklyn, Tyson, Bowe, Judah
Oh yeah, i forgot about Briggs as well man, that dude had everything, KO power, size he just lacked stamina and i dont think hes that dedicated 2bh Do u know if Tyson/Bowe get a lot of love in Brooklyn? I hear Zab Judahs name in rap songs quiet often
Tyson definitely. Bowe didnt really go back to Brooklyn like Tyson did. Bowe is pretty planted in Maryland. He looks pretty bad too.
Despite being the similar ages, fighting around the same time, in the same division, theres not a lot of information out there about any possible relationship between Tyson/Bowe Apprently Rock Newman took Bowe to visit Tyson while in prison to try and get a fight sorted out, i wonder what went down.
"Hard Rock" Newman made a bundle managing Bowe in the 1990s and always said after Bowe is done fighting, he'd leave the game behind.... He did, too..... I can respect Newman for at least being loyal to one big name fighter and concentrating on him alone... Many managers' spread themselves too thin and end up doing a shitty job in handling affairs...... Bowe did claim that Newman skimmed from the top of the money pile, but what manager doesn't.?.? It's called LEAKAGE! MR.BILLhat If anybody needs a manager I hear Tyson's old homies "Horne & Halloway" are available.... atsch:shock::rofl:nono
I remember the insults and racial accusations he threw at Pierre Cootzer in the run up to his fight with Bowe. It seemed like he was trying to promote the fight off the back of the Apartheid regime in South Africa, where Cootzer's from.
And then Bowe had low blow the powder-puff punching mustachioed Boer into submission. Bowe just didn't have the stuff of a long-term champion.
