Where's The Buzz For Crawford-Benavidez? Jose Is Capable Of Pulling The Upset. Will He?

Yeah, I know, Jose should have lost to Herrera, that's very obvious to me since I scored it for El Maestro. Jose was also struggling with Paez Jr. before he stopped him, but unlike Tony Margarito, he didn't get dropped by him and actually stopped him. He also managed to look poor in beating Chia Santana. What do these three have in common? Paez and Santana brought non stop pressure, was in his face throwing punches relentlessly, Herrera was in and out, and sporadically brought the pressure. Well guess what, Bud Crawford doesn't bring the pressure does he?

I used to be really high on Benavidez, then those three fights occurred and I lost a little faith, but... could it be that in his 3 big step ups, he just so happened to have the misfortune of facing consecutive poor styles clashes? Yeah, its a distinct possibility. Also, he beat 2 or the three style clashes in the end, fairly convincingly.

Also for what its worth, the Herrera he looked poor against is the same Herrera that was coming off of what should have been taking the 0 of Danny Swift Garcia, but we all know how that turned out don't we? Well Jose in my estimation performed against Herrera far more impressively than Swift, and arguably did enough to win a draw, whereas no one in their right mind could score their match for Danny, thankfully for Danny, most judges aren't in their right mind.

Benavidez is a very, and I mean very talented fighter, on the outside, he's got a stiff punishing jab, a quick sharp counter left hook, a beautiful right cross, deceptively fast hands, he's rangy, has good footwork, can throw some impressive combinations, cuts the ring off fairly well, and uses odd angles quite well and his punch selection isn't by the numbers or too predictable. Also Jose is a switch hitter just like Bud. By nature, Benavidez is at his best when counter punching against fighters who stay on the outside and don't pressure him.

He's listed at 6'2, I don't buy that, he's probably smaller, but he's still quite large for a Welterweight, easily the biggest guy Bud has faced, add to that he also has the reach advantage by 2 or 3 inches.

Now sure, Bud is performing on the highest level, but sooner or later he's going to run into someone who's his stylistic kryptonite. Kind of like Benavidez did almost 3 times in a row. But Benavidez doesn't fight anything like the people Bud has faced in the past and vice versa.

Will Jose spring the upset? I'm not saying he will, but I am saying that stylistically, this is not going to be a walk in the park for Bud, it won't be an easy defense, it fact, it may very well be his most difficult fight to date.

So discuss amongst yourselves, can he do it? Will he do it? I'm saying.... don't be shocked if he does, he might.

I've seen Benavidez once. His first round job last start.

Based on viewing less than one round of action, I think he can do it.

I think he's got what it takes.

Someone mentioned Vernon Forrest v Shane Mosley in the Nicki Minaj thread.

I like that analysis & agree with it.

Of course getting shot & his subsequent lack of activity won't help his chances.

I agree with op, this ain't a walk in the park. I did mention somewhere here the Forrest Mosley comparisons and see benividez the same as Forrest, tall rangy skillfull with good power, that's a tough match up for anyone.
Can't wait for it, this is a good fight.

Nope, Crawford wins wide though Jose makes the final bell. Herrera beat him in reality and I don't think he's improved much since then though it's hard to tell after a two year period of absence after being shot and a one round KO in his last fight.

Crawford is the real deal and make this look like straight forward work.

Jose ain’t doing **** man, he ain’t fought one live opponent in over three years, he got a gift against Herrera in my opinion. This will go similar to the Jeff horn schooling, benavidez is gunna get countered to death.

I used to be high on him too back in the Solo Boxeo days, but unfortunately, I just don't think he's got anything for Bud. Everything you mentioned that Jose does, Crawford just does better.

No Buzz. For how good a fighter Crawford is its rediculous how poorly he is promoted. He should leave TopRank and seek greener pastures.

50+ shows a year, fight as often as you like. Matchroom is going to make boxing great again.

Like him or not, Crawford is just too complete of a fighter for anyone at 147. I can’t find a hole in his arsenal.

I project he unifies 147 and wins at least one title at 154 in the next few years.

Bud Crawford is not poorly promoted. He's no less known than Danny, Mikey, Shawn, Keith, Errol, Lomachenko... People can't seem to understand that guys like Pac, Floyd, Joshua, and Drugnelo (maybe even Golovkin) are the exceptions.

Yeah, the only chink in his armor might be his chin — I know it's boxing, but Gamboa, who's the size of one of my testicles, really shouldn't have been able to hurt him that badly.

I haven't been on here all that much in the past few days, so I missed that, that's a very apt comparison and I visualize the fight going in a similar manner, now will it be enough or will Bud eventually figure him out, possibly, but this ain't no cake walk.

Yeah, this is getting zero attention, strangely, even with Bud's "heel turn" of late (calculated I suppose to make him seem more interesting as response to people criticizing him as too bland? :nusenuse:) with the "Benavidez is an unworthy challenger" and "I don't consider Pacquiao a real champion".
