Some recent fights come to mind where one of BOTH guys were not willing to engage out of fear, I can only presume- Frampton-Quigg(most of the fight), Fury-Klitschko, Saunders-Lee(other than the 3rd round), Lee-Quillen(some action but a lot of trying to wait on the other guy to make a mistake while posing at one another). I mean, I get that each guy wants to outsmart the other and doesn't want to get caught, but hell, learn how to close the gap and push forward in the smart way without sticking your neck out. Heck, you have to go for it sometimes. This attitude is turning out fights that are just plain boring. I don't see this from all fighters, but I think the trend is on the rise. Overall, I think these guys are only hurting their own reputations in the long run. The best and greatest fighters always had the stones to go after the other guy in there, especially in a big fight situation.
Agreed, I wish more fighters would make opportunities for themselves instead of waiting for their opponent to make a mistake. Aggression is at an all time low in this sport. It's basically down to Kovalev, Golovkin, and Roman Gonzalez at this point. They still seek and destroy. It also wouldn't hurt if more guys were interested in infighting rather than tying up when their opponents get close. Two guys boxing in a phone booth is one of the greatest things you can see in this sport. However, when you are inside landing bombs you are constantly in range to be hit back. Too many fighters now are more interested in safety than in punishing their opponent, so they never take any risks.
