Whether or not it's close, does a Mayweather win on Saturday make him #1 P4P?

    PRO argument:
-He was #1 before he retired. Now he's unretired.
-He beat the then-#2 P4P fighter in JMM.
-If he wins Saturday, he will have beaten the #3 P4P fighter as well.

    CON argument:
-He retired, so he relinquished the spot.
-He beat JMM, but he was moving up 12 pounds for the first time.
-Shane Mosley is #3 P4P, but he was already beaten by Cotto in recent times.

Mosley has been inactive for longer than Floyd was 'retired', if you think Floyd's previous achievements don't count because he 'retired' then you shouldn't consider Mosley in the current rankings.

    Convincngly - Yes

    Close - No

The thing is Pacquiao has been beating fighters Since the Morales defeat very convincingly and i think only a clear decisive Floyd win over Mosley could up him to no1 P4P

I hate Floyd (as a person, not as a boxer, you ****ing idiots) but I think if he beats Shane in dominating fashion there's a really strong argument for him to be #1 P4P.

If its convincing enough to the extent of a stoppage or a complete ass whoopin then I might accept him being number 1.

    I may. It all depends.

The Pac fight has to happen, in my opinion.

a close win means he stays number 2. a convincing win makes him level pegging with pacquiao. then ultimately a fight between the 2 will sort out who is the real p4p king of the world.

    anyone else agree with me?

Yep. Of course. It's not a belt or a ****in title.. successive wins over the #2 and #3 P4P best make you the best right now = #1 best P4P.

Pacquiao has to lose in order to be removed from # 1. Either that or struggle mightily with an opponent that he's suppose to beat.

    Yes.

If he beats Mosley, he will have beaten the man who beat the man (Margarito) who beat the man (Cotto).

Imo if Floyd wins against Mosley that should make him P4P #1. And #1 at Welterweight. 3 of his last 5 opponents were on the top 10 p4p list at the time he fought them. (Hatton, Marquez, & Mosley).

Not to mention he only lost the status because he retired. And coming back from a 21 month layoff and knocking off #2 and #3 back to back says something.

He was the lineal champ at Welterweight (actually undisputed had Baldomir paid his sanctioning fees).

And once Floyd retired, it was Mosley, who beat Margarito who beat Cotto, that was considered "THE GUY" at welterweight. I don't see how Pacquiao is considered number 1 at Welterweight ahead of Mosley for beating De la Hoya & Cotto (Cotto at a catch weight at that).

If Mayweather wins he should be p4p #1 and Welterweight #1
If Mosley wins the p4p #1 should be vacant (to either him or Pac) and Mosley should be the Champ at Welterweight.

pacquiao has done so much in the past 2 years that it would be hard for me to put floyd ahead of pacquiao even with a dominating win over shane. in perspective, floyd should be fighting guy like mosley for the past 4 or 5 years in the weight, pac has just been at the weight and he fought top ranked guys like cotto and clottey and dominated them.

I think it does, or in the very least the vote split goes closer to 50-50 than what it is now between Mayweather and Pacquiao.

I don't consider margarito's win over cotto to be fair regardless if there is proof or not for that fight, he was caught loading his gloves for the mosley fight, so any wins he had over Cotto I don't really count. That leaves Cotto beating mosley fair and square.

you also have to realized P4P is not the welterweight division although most of the fighters come from there. The reason Pac is number 1 on P4P is because (A) He holds titles in seven different weight classes (B) He has not retired or taken a long break from fighting like the others.

In the welterweight division Pac has fought 2 top 5 fighters in Cotto and Clottey. I believe you can't be replaced from the number 1 spot unless someone beats you. Even if the number 2 fights the number 3.
