Whether or not it's close, does a Mayweather win on Saturday make him #1 P4P?

Hatton who was at his best weight, only lost once.

Hoya was definitely way past it, I'll give you that. But no one gave Manny a chance in that fight coming in.

Cotto damaged goods? That's just revisionist history. He lost one fight, and he fought a tough fighter after that (Joshua Clottey). Manny completely dominated Cotto.

Clottey a living punching bag? Once again, revisionist history. Clottey was a tough, top welter that everyone avoided. Manny completely shut him down and made him look like a punching bag.

A win over Shane will be good for Floyd but I don't think that alone can top what Pacquaio has done.

i cant say i would it would definitely bring him closer but to be honest although u could scrutinize PAC's opposition as you could Floyds...the fact is Pac still fought nice opponents....and even though Clottey didnt preset the challenge i would have hoped for....it still doesnt take away the fact that he is one of the top echelon of fighters at WW.

Like i said i always and will always rate Floyd and Pac along the lines of legacy very close to each other...both early in their careers were hungry as they moved up things got selective. So i think Pac has to lose or lose to Floyd for him to take #1 spot but i dont see that as a problem for Floyd because if they should fight...i got Floyd winning.

Now if they dont fight...well Floyd will just have to step his challenges up.

I don't care where Marquez ranks at pound for pound, that fight does nothing to support Mayweather's claim to the top pound for pound for spot. Marquez never had a chance at that weight and Mayweather paid extra to weigh two pounds over the agreed limit and cement his advantage.

Beating Mosley on the other hand, a legitimate top welterweight, is a more solid argument for pound for pound supremacy. Close or dominant, Pacquiao's resume of late still outstrips Mayweather's own however.

The argument as to who is the true P4P king of the sport right now can only be settled if the two decide to get it on in the ring.

No, because Mosley is past his prime and is about 40 years old.
He fought an old DLH only becuse DLH was past his prime about to retire.

If DLH was old for Mayweather, then Mayweather is basically "old" as well.

Do you even think before you post?

Do you know DLH`s age when he fought Floyd ?
DLH career was concluding or finished when Floyd
fought him. Are you a blind Mayweather`s fan ?

DLH was 34 and a few months.

Mayweather is 33 and a few months.

Floyd's career is soon ending as well, only a few more fights.

If DLH was old, then Floyd is old.

It would be close but I'd give the slight edge to Pacquiao. His consistency over the last few years has been extraordinary. Lets not for get that since being ranked p4p number 2 behind Mayweather he has moved up from super featherweight to all the way up to welterweight, demolishing everyone in his path. If you mentioned a possible match up between Cotto and Pacquiao in 2008 you would have been laughed off this board...just as PacDbest.

Mayweather was not 33 when he fought DLH.
DLH fought all the very best at his time while
Floyd avoided them. Therefore DLH`s career
was shortened by fighting the very best
while Floys`s career could be longer by avoing the best.

I'm not talking about when Floyd him, Im talking about now.

    :patsch

DLH's career was shortened because he drained himself too far, not because he had been in many tough fights.

Like I said, if DLH was old at 34, Mayweather might as well be considered old now.

I mean, age seems to be such a factor to you.

next thing you know, we'll see you post saying he fought Manny on the wrong side of 30, he waited till he was old. '

No. Pac has to lose or retire before floyd can be number 1. Besides pac is winning against quality opponents so no strong reason to peg him down.
