Whether the punches were low or not, the stoppage was unjustified.

The "finishing blow" was clearly low.

This is what happens when Ward fights. This is what it is, and what it's always going to be.

They were borderline because Kovalev's trunks were high. Fact is he was hurt before that, hunched and didn't defend himself. No choice but to stop it.

Not really, but I wanted to see a fair and square win from Ward. This is pretty iffy, to say the least.

I thought it shouldve been a standing 8 count, not a stoppage. That being said the blows were borderline but it is clear Ward figured him out and a stoppage was inevitable. Ward beat him, hurt him and just outclassed him. Kovalevs kryptonite has been discovered.

I agree, Ward would have won the fight anyway. But a tainted win is a tainted win, no matter what.

Ehh! The only taint on the win is the ref stopped it too soon and didnt give Ward a chance to make it clear and decisive. I knew the fight was over in the 7th. Thats where momentum changed drastically.

This sort of thing makes Floyd & McGregor look worth it.
A terrible decision again! Won on fouling.

The correct decision when Ward started punching Kovalev low along the ropes would be to to call time deduct a point from ward and give kovalev 5 minutes.

He was bent over in agony no longer attempting to defend himself, what else do you want?

    That's why counts exist.

Fighter is getting overwhelmed - you give him a count.
Fighter keeps getting overwhelmed after the count - you stop the fight.

His legs were gone though. Kovalev just gassed out.

That's for the ref to decide, he looked done to me.
