He didn't. Mayweather is a safety first guy who wanted to tire McGregor out to ensure a victory. He wasn't willing to take a risk against a boxing novice.

Floyd's ego would not allow him to "carry" someone to look better against him. What would he gain from doing that? Tell me.

He just sparked out the guy who put Fury on his ass and arguably beat him. I think you are just salty your favourite fighter has been exposed as not being the undefeatable heavyweight some of you lot claimed.

Was a great finsih, but Ngannou really showed his inexperience after going down from the 1st straight right - Joshua could hardly miss with it after that.

Great finish, and I think it shows a much more focussed Joshua, but it's hard to say what can really take from it - he's always had monstrous power to knock anyone out, but it's about whether he can land and is allowed to fight his fight IMO.

Anyone should go back and watch the 1st round of both Usyk fights, AJ has the whole tempo and ring generalship taken from him in the 1st 20 seconds and he spends most of the rest of the fight trying to figure out how to get it back, getting more increasingly frustrated.

But can'[t take anything away from him tonight - fair play, I thought Ngannou would be more durable and Joshua less aggressive, but glad I was wrong!

But I meant in MMA. He has left himself so wide open to get KO'd, it's a wonder he hasn't. Stipe caught him flush with no defense, he took it and then Stipe left himself even more open and got slept. Against Biggie Boy his technique was awful too. Many more examples.

It was a fine performance from Joshua, but I don't think boxing's credibility needed saving. Fury has addiction and mental health issues and in some ways is a classic underachiever. It's not surprising at all that he was not prepared for Ngannou and took him lightly. The fact that this happened in no way destroyed boxing or threatened its credibility. Fury is only one elite boxer and is not representative of the whole.

    Agreed.

My takeaway from the fight is that it wasn't that Francis is a good boxer with untapped potential, it's that Fury might just...suck.

His resume ages like milk every year.

-Had a mediocre resume prior to his title shot. Was floored by cruiserweight Cunningham and won with dirty tactics, got a blatant gift win against McDermott, etc. His best win was the flat footed punching bag Chisora whose an "ok" B-/C+ fighter at best.

-He became champion after beating an ancient gunshy Wladmir in a snooze fest. Literally the most boring HW title fight of all time against a pretty shopworn champion and neither guy really letting their hands go. Fury would not give Wladmir a rematch and had PED allegations. We later saw a somewhat rejuvenated Wladmir do better against Joshua.

-He then disappears for 3 years claiming "mental health issues" when the main issue was that he simply became an obese, unmotivated coke head (conveniently when the division was heating up with young talent).

    - He has a few tune-ups, which is understandable given his ring rust. But they told us absolutely nothing about his overall elite skill.

-I'll give him credit for facing Wilder when he didn't have to, he could've stalled with more tune ups. Wilder was prime, undefeated, and a scary (albeit, sloppy) KO artist. However, he did end up getting dropped twice. The second knockdown was very long and generous and I thought he was fortunate to get a draw.

-More tune ups, one of which nearly ended in disaster against Wallin where he was very lucky to not get stopped.

-Finally beats Wilder convincingly, but all it really exposed was how terrible Wilder is fighting on the back foot with no plan B outside of going for the KO.

-Has some lackluster performances with 2 more fights against Chisora NOBODY asked for, KO's the very mediocre fat ass drug cheat Dillian Whyte, and beats Wilder again (after being floored twice...again). Mind you, even by the time of their 3rd fight, Wilder only beat like 2-3 ranked opponents in Stiverne (champ), Ortiz, and Brezeale.

-Is floored by 0-0-0 MMA fighter Francis and arguably lost.

Does this look like the credentials of some sort of hall of famer or h2h monster? Fury MUST beat Usyk or the boxing historians will tear up his resume like wet tissue paper.

I disagree Fury is the Heavyweight champion of the world that's supposed to be one of the most prestigious titles, and Fury made a mockery of it and the sport itself with his pathetic showing vs Ngannou.

I do think Joshua did need to make an example of Ngannou to save some creditability for boxing, people have been talking on social media non stop about how a "Non boxer almost beat the Heavyweight champion of the world"

This performance from Joshua sets the record straight.

I have nothing against Ngannou or MMA but for selfish reasons and for being a big fan of boxing this needed to happen tonight, although i do wish Ngannou well in whatever he decides to do in the future.

    Another clueless poster.

Mayweather absolutely carried McGregor. He didn't bother even using his typical Philly shell stance and used an Orthodox stance. He walked him down on the front foot, something Mayweather hasn't done in like a decade. He would ease up on McGregor when he had him hurt and was punching more slowly and with less of his usual technical sharpness.

It couldn't be more obvious Mayweather was taking it easy on McGregor. He put on a show to give the fans their money's worth. It was like a guy switching to the worst character in a fighting game to give the opponent a chance...I mean he literally did not use the philly shell.

He fixed something that Fury broke..

Francis was becomming a bit of a knob so hopefully he respects boxing a bit more now.

Absolute demolition job. I dont like AJ very much but he looked the part there. Didnt expect him to get it done like that.

Anyway, nobodys credibility would be at stake if these dumb crossovers just stopped.

I never said he really tried and struggled. But he didn't carry McGregor. His plan was to tire him out. Just didn't have the stones to even go at an MMA guy. Who are you fooling. When has Floyd EVER want to give fans a show? You act like he was going forward bombing McGregor. If he had gone for it from round one the fans would have been happy. Fans don't need longer fights. A good ass whooping is entertaining for fans. There's no need to "carry" to put on a show. Floyd's ego is too big to want anyone to look good against him.
