    Well?

and that includes a vitali - could a 38 year old Vitali have beaten the younger fitter version?

No. Old George Foreman would probably have he best shot, but because Vitali has a good chin, I don't see it happen. My answer, therefore, would be no one, with the exception of Lewis, who won on a cut.

    Ray Mercer...

Sonny Liston (assuming his actual age was older than listed) and George Foreman maybe...

And younger Vitali beats old Vitali every time...

    Archie Moore
    Joe Walcott
    Lennox Lewis
are probably the best of the pushing 40 heavies. Actually, Vitali could be added to this category himself.

Holmes, Foreman, and Holyfield were all still very capable as well.

Mercer was mostly inactive from the ages 36-38 with a neck injury. Than he was infected with Hepatits B and out for two more years. He wouldn't get back into any kind of shape until he was 40 and Wlad brutalized him in his first major bout since his comeback. I don't think too highly of Vitali but I doubt an injured sick man is going to be taking him..even if he went the distance with Lewis once upon a time.

What because of the size difference?

Archie Moore overcame Valdez's 80 inch wingspan and has KOed notable fighters 30+ lbs heavier than him. Unlike Vitali, Valdez has actually beat all time greats and multiple top 5 fighters. Kevin Johnson and Byrd made Vitali look ugly, Moore was just as slick as those guys and could actually punch back as well.

Walcott schooled and bloodied undefeated 6'4" 84" reach technician Hein Ten Hoff in the pouring rain. Hoff's style was strikingly simliar to Vitali's and with longer arms. Another fighter that would frustrate Vitali to no end and with two fisted power that could potentially slice him up.

Are you serious they have no chance against Vitali? Educate yourself.

Audley Harrison never beat an all time great. Audley Harrison never beat any top 5 heavyweights. Audley Harrison never beat a top 10 fighter, let alone near double digits worth. Audley Harrison was never recognized as the number one Heavyweight contender in the world, let alone multiple years...etc. :patsch
