Which 5 heavyweights, because of their styles and strengths would be the hardest for Jack Johnson to overcome?

    I'll go
    Ali
    Lewis
    Holmes
    Louis
    W Klitschko

Ali because of his speed, movement ,and combos.

Lewis because of his combination of size , skill and power.

Holmes because he had a great jab, good speed, decent power, and size.

Louis because of his power, fast combinations, backed up by a fine jab.

Wlad for his size, power, jab, and clinching style.

    Others for consideration might be:
Liston + great jab, awesome power, underated boxing ability
    -Poor footwork[followed his man around]
    Tyson + handspeed,combinations , and power.
    - He could be frustrated and nullified eg Tucker and Smith.
Foreman+ Power to take anyone out, good jab., knew how to cut off the ring.
-Tendency to exhaust himself throwing wide hooks that Jack should see coming and block, not hard to hit,did not slip punches , relied on blocking punches with his gloves.

Vitali Klitschko.+ Decent power and utilised the jab well, excellent chin.
-Essentially an arm puncher with no inside game.

Dempsey+ great two handed power, quick into range, fast of hand and foot.
    - Weather the intial storm and you're in with a chance, crouching style would make him vulnerable to Johnson's uppercut.

Marciano+ excellent power in both hands, relentless pressure ,unsurpassed determination and fitness levels.
    - slow of foot and average handspeed, vulnerable to facial damage, was often outboxed early on by older, more skilled men [if they had been younger would he have prevailed?]small of stature,[no small man did well with Johnson]as Dempsey his crouching approach would make him vulnerable to ripping uppercuts ,[Johnson's best punch] .
Feel free to dispute my choices, substitute your own,[maybe Frazier,Holyfield? ] Argue against my reasons.

Lewis, Tyson, Holmes, Wladimir, all drink water before their fights.

J/k. Haha. I'm here all week.

Frazier, Ibeaubuchi and Marciano with a combination of volume and speed of attack would be very difficult for him I feel.

Wladimir and Lewis just have so much on him in terms of length that in combination with his style that i can't imagine him out-pointing them.

I think Jack would easily pick off Ali's jabs and right hands so I wouldn't include him in the five. Louis also to me would have been easy to read for Jack despite having better weapons. Tyson would have got through as eventually may have Marciano and Dempsey. Sonny's heavy handedness at his best would have kept Jack on his back foot and from mounting an offence and at his best big George may have had too big of guns for Johnson.

This is a tough one for me. Im not really a Johnson fan per se but he had a very bad style for just about anyone. He was just so good at shutting guys down and making them fight his fight. Id guess Ali based on his size, speed, and athleticism. Louis because he was a devastating short puncher with great combos (but hed have to be able to get them off and I dont know that he could). Beyond that Im not really sure. Maybe a tall big athletic guy like Wlad but I dont know that Wlad has the confidence once hes in the ring to deal with a guy who was so mentally strong like JOhnson.

All good choices, just a little surprised you omitted Tunney. In match up threads against Marciano and Tunney you pick Johnson much more confidently against the rock than you do against Gene.

Wlad would make quick work of Johnson. No disrespect to Johnson but it's logical, Wlad sticks to his game plan as good as anyone and at nearly 6'7 250 and skilled led by an ATG jab I can only see JJ getting pummeled.

    I think Wlad is 6' 5".
Quick work ? Wlad didn't make quick work of a host of journeymen level challengers.
I wonder why you think he disposes of Johnson so easily?

If you think Tunney is appropriate, put him in.

I think Tunney would have won a decision over Johnson. He had the chin, speed and conditioning to accomplish this.

Well I do think Tunney is appropriate, but only reason I mentioned him was in a mythical match up thread between the two, you posted that this was one fight that you think Johnson would struggle with and if you had to choose you pick Johnson by SD. Just wondering if you accidentally left him off the list.

    Wlad is 6'6.5

Good point On Wlad, I may have rushed the result of this fantasy fight looking at the enormous physical advantage Wlad possesses and didn't put as much thought into Wlad's deliberate style that he never deviates from. I see Wlad now at Tko 7 in a one sided affair. Too much size, weight and too good of a jab for me to pick against him in this fight.
