Which 80 fs champs could have beaten wlad in his prime.? I'll take holmes and tyson out because I'm sure those two vs wlad have been done at some point. Witherspoon Tucker Page Tate Weaver Smith????? Or does wlad stand above them all?
tucker and maybe the best version of tony tubbs. smith has a punchers chance. not sure about witherspoon
He was never a champion but still,I would have loved to have seen a pre-Holmes Gerry Cooney match up with Klitschko.
Possible gerrie bionic hand could catch wlad and cause a upset. Smith to similar to the Bruno fight, can never rule him out. Witherspoon on his best day would give wlad the fight of his life. Tucker perhaps, he has the skills and took tyson to the end. Regarding cooney, yes he could definitely have a chance with the power he had.
When you say Cloud, its all of them. Upsets happen. I think Witherspoon or Tucker would have the best chance. Witherspoon lose a close one to Holmes. Tucker did well vs Tyson until he hurt his hand, and finished the fight, but Tucker was never aggressive enough when needed. Weaver and Tate do not have much of a chance. Neither does Smith. Page at his best has a chance, but he was seldom at his best. Best guess if Wlad fought them all in their primes 4-2 for Wlad.
most would match or beat him, but I wouldnt include the weakest most transient ones. easier to make a list of those he would beat - coetzee, tate, possibly page, definitely damiani if you include wbo that was unrecognised at the time. 3 or 4 names is a generous list for someone who only beat 1 titlist in his time, and a weak one in that, 6 round sam peter. EDIT - oh hang on, no thought this was about Vitali. If its Wlad, seriously anyone who could bang, was not afriad to start fast and had some decent skill would ko him in 1. Thats pretty much all apart from COetzee and Damiani. Perhaps Dokes too, but that handspeed might be too much for wlad.
Guys had legs back then and could box off the back foot so im inclined to think Wlad loses to 85% of the division. Tony Tucker definitely was all wrong for him. When he was shot to bits in the 90's he did better against Lewis than the older bigger better Klischko .
Witherspoon, Thomas, Tubbs. If Wlad moves and uses his height it would be close. But, Spoon would come forward and use a body attack to slow him. Then, he would dent Wlad's chin late. Thomas could probably do the same. Tubbs would cautiosuly box and make Wlad look ponderous Page would find a way to lose against Wlad. Tucker wouldn't throw enough shots and would lose a decision. Weaver could beat the Wlad thad lost to Sanders but would lose a decision to the better, later vesion of Wlad.
