It is true. Most elite athletes are terrible coaches and managers.

Most great coaches and athletes are average or above average over achievers. They never had the raw physical talent but compensating for that with higher cerebral understanding than your typical athlete.

Look at all the great former athlete coaches and managers. Very few where elite professional athletes. Some where great amateurs, but that is about it.

Think this will surprise most 'n make chauvinists gag. Layla MCarter -- WHATTA SWEET BOXER. Educated jab. Great balance. Savvy ring general. If she had an eraser, she'd be headlining big cards.

Watched her train fighters at Johnny Tocco's Gym in Vegas. She's strictly ol' school; spots every mistake 'n clearly demonstrates howta avoid 'em, plus no matter how big 'n mean a fighter is, she doesn't back off.

Some smart manager should consider her seriously. Also, Joey Gamache is a first-rate trainer/communicator. Knows how to teach fundamentals.

Marquez, Hopkins, and the Klitschko's if they trained Heavyweights.

However, I believe the true journeymen in the sport would all make better trainers than the very top guys.

PBF obviously understands the sport at the highest possible level. But there are 2 things yo must consider -

Can PBF express what he does so instinctively to others? This is very difficult and a skill to itself. What I do professionally (and do well) is often very difficult to explain to others.

A great trainer/coach must be able to ARTICULATE complex ideas in simple ways an athlete can understand.

Communication is not PBF's strongest trait - to say the least.

    Shannon Briggs.
He should train every American HW from now on - that would be awesome.
