That's just the thing though. You wouldn't expect them to do it, therefore you aren't likely to predict that they would.

I guess anyone can be KO'd if they are caught clean but I can not think of any except perhaps Sharkey (KO'd by Primo and Dempsey) and Patterson (usually took more than one punch, even Sonny landed more than 1 punch) Walcott got stopped by elite puncher Marciano but JJW was very slick and crafty for Rahman or McCall (it took a 6 piece by Louis to take JJ out)

Earnie Shavers got KO by Jerry Quarry with one punch.

I started a thread a while back featuring a 1974 George Foreman vs a 1994 Oliver McCall. It was interesting to see how several people actually gave McCall a good chance and frankly I saw merit in some of the arguments. To be clear I wouldn't pick McCall to beat Foreman with "one shot", but could he possibly weather the early storm with his stamina and durability to stop a tiring George late? Probably not entirely out of the question.

They'd both lay out the Douglas who fought Holy.

    They were both good punchers.

Any man over 180 lbs , whom lands a punch on another mans weak spot is going to Ko him. Skill in not getting Koed or taking punches , is more in movement of the kneck and head, or rolling with the punches.

That said there are the freaks like McCall and Foreman that can handle quite a bit of flush shots and not collapse.

But, I would say almost NONE

If McCall and Rahman hit you flush, it would be goodnight for 95% of champs past or present.

This is true with the solid chin guys and the stamina challenged fighters, the punchers have no plan B. I saw this with Vlad-Purity and Shavers many times...Foreman was a tremendous telegraphing puncher who was carefully managed but he may have lost to any solid chinned guy who could take him into the deeper waters

No way to know--how many of them have ever been caught offguard and hit flush on the chin by bombs thrown by strong 240-lb men?

And for the record, McCall didn't stop Lewis with one punch-- it was a left hook-straight right combination. And in most earlier eras, Lewis would have been allowed to have continued, fwiw. He beat the count but was on shaky legs.

take another look at that, Lewis was badly hurt and wobbly another clean shot may have ruined his career.

I don't think McCall was a bum at all. He had Manny Steward in his corner on that evening, worked as a sparring partner for Mike Tyson for years, had beaten a few prospects and fringe guys, and was one of the most durable heavyweights of all time with decent power. How many all time greats does he stop with "one shot?" probably not many. But could have ground down a few of them over time? Absolutely. I think a better question would be " How many ATG's STOP McCall?"

Not saying that it was a bad stoppage at all--he was certainly in big trouble. But he was on his feet, standing, and I would be surprised if refs in earlier eras wouldn't have given him a chance to survive (and take more punishment).
