Jack Dempsey. He got knocked out by one punch from a 37 year old light hitting journeyman

We don't know if Marciano could take their power because he never fought a really big heavy who was any good?

If he did, then it was too early in his career to draw significant inferences from it.

Lewis's defenders make a big issue of the size of the men who stopped him, but being big does not in itself make you a murderous puncher, or an effective finisher.

Outside of stopping Lewis, what do you see in these men's records, to suggest that they would have put away other all time greats?

I see the two punches they landed to drop Lewis then I compare them to the one from Moore that dropped Marciano for a 4 count and caused him to momentarily black out.
    What do you see?

Moore's shot was a nice sneak right counter down the middle.
McCall and Rahman threw haymakers at a wide open target (a smiling target in Rahman's case).

Moore floored big men. Do you think it's possible that he could drop Lewis? Obviously, I think Lewis would beat Moore, but could he floor Lewis with a sneak shot?

The McCall punch and the Moore punch were similar in that Lewis and Marciano walked on to right hand counters. Just because McCall is bigger it doesn't automatically follow that the punch was harder. If size was everything, Bugner and Mathis would be ATG punchers.

Ultimately I have to see that Marciano beat the count, and Lewis didn't.

My point is that we can't defend Lewis, based on the size of the men who stopped him alone.

There have been big heavyweights who couldn't punch worth a lick, and there have been heavy hitters, who were unlikely to knock out elite opponents in practice.

    Not really.

Try to pretend that neither men ever fought Lewis.

What would your assessment of them as punchers be?

Personally I think that it would be a better much argument, if Lewis's two one punch knockout losses, had come at the hands of Tua and Morison.

Rahman was an average puncher and an average boxer. I doubt he'd land on an ATG.

There's no doubt in my mind that Rahman's punch would have hurt or KO'd just about anyone, but there's also little doubt that a great fighter wouldn't let him tee off such an absurd haymaker like that.

The manner in which Lewis got caught was pathetic.
