BTW I'd really love to see the 140lb fight, Hopefully the 154lb fight actually happens down the road...
Ok seriously, the 154lb division isn't doing to bad. As far as A talent goes sure it doesn't have much but as far as the possibility of some fantastic ass fights I think its loaded!
It would just be stupid. 1) Kirkland and Angulo have the same promoter, so it would be outright ******ed to have them fight each other. 2) Matirosyan is one of Top Rank's hot prospects. Top Rank NEVER schedules prospect-prospect fights, unless they're title eliminators. 3) None of them are that high in the ABC rankings, so beating each other off wouldn't help propel any of them closer to a belt. 4) Prospect-prospect fights almost never make good business sense. If you expect someone to be a beltholder or serious contender someday, you stand to make much more money by waiting to have them fight until they're established. Having them fight too early is a lose-lose situation - the winner doesn't get that much money or additional recognition, the loser gets stuck with a loss on his record early in his career, and if the first fight wasn't competitive, then there's no money in having a rematch, even if it would otherwise be the best fight available. No, none of those fights are going to happen, yet. If they get belts and become names, then sure, money talks. It's just stupid and naive to say that they're protecting him because he's not fighting other serious prospects. In 3 of his last 4 fights, he faced a solid gatekeeper with a rock-solid chin (Ossie Duran), a huge puncher (Conyers) and an Olympian who was a fringe contender and had never been down (Albert). What more do you want for a guy with little amateur experience?
