Yeah, Rahman is strong as ****. At the 24 hour fitness in Trop and Decatur in Vegas he would go in there and rep over 400 easily, squat ridiculous amounts, easily the strongest guy I've ever seen in real life working out with my own eyes. But at a certain point you are strong enough. I believe that pound for pound Mosley was probably one of the smallest "good" lifters. I believe his claims of over a 300 lb bench (max) but guys like Broner are more typical - never really benching and not even as strong as a high school weight lifter at isolation exercises. That vid of Broner benching like 205 or so incorrectly was embarassing in the extreme.
Marcos would have to put in a hell of a lot more time doing heavy compounds to just hop on the bench every now an then an throw up 420. I agree with you. Also that heavyweight claiming a 670 bench is laughable. I don't think people know how rare a 600 raw bench is.
THIS! It is something you train years for it! As long there is no video (where the weight is CLEAR to see) I dont believe anything here!
Yet, Broner is one of the hardest punchers. Honestly, in my own personal experience, I do believe strength training contributes to power to a certain extent, but I think it also compromises agility to a certain extent. Broner would benefit best by advanced calesthenics and pylometrics. It won't compromise his agility at all, but it will supplment his natural power and allow him to manhandle people in the ring. Besides, if he gets to the point to where he can do one arm pushups with his feet together, he'll be able to bench damn near 300 lbs anyway.
I don't think that means bench would necessarily be in that equation. Your body is a chain, but the chain starts from the ground.
I don't think this follows. I could do a lot of those with my feet close, but my all time max bench never went over 255. Depending on how strict you are with form and counting, I can still do about 40 one armed push ups here and I think my arms are the same length as Broner's or thereabouts. He's a bit heavier, sure, but weight distribution in the lower body should still relegate less absolute weight on the arm/chest. Maybe you wouldn't like the form, but the legs are very close. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNVQ0yFnE9o
