The biggest example of this in boxing History is (sadly for me) Mike Tyson. Yes, he was the youngest ever to win the HW title, but also the youngest ever to lose it. And after that, his career has been a disapointment. Tyson embodies the fact that all the talent in the world at the end can`t compensate for mental toughness, focus, dedication, courage, discipline and determination. All of the truly GREAT fighters have/had these qualities.
Joe Calzaghe - (Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins, Jones) - Whenever he's been doubted, he has always won, and won with relative ease. He's the one that has proved me wrong a lot simply because he's almost always made the fights look so easy.
Manny Pacquiao - His improvements from year to year as a fighter and then a boxer are absolutely phenomenal. He didn't even know how to use his right hand before, and now he uses it as a very effective weapon and now combination punches like a master. His evolution as a fighter has simply been phenomenal.
Nicolay Valuev. To me he is on the journeyman level yet he keeps winning somehow and defending his belt.
Golata - such an unpredictable roller coaster, when i thought he was going to win he'd lose, then i thought he was finished he'd win. no consistency from one fight to the next. Arreola - not so much wrong...just that i was high on him before, but recently I have become increasingly concerned of his bad habits.
Manny Pacquiao. I thought he'd lose to Barrera in 2003, I thought he'd lose to Marquez the next year. I thought Morales would repeat the trick of the first fight in their rematch, and didn't expect Pacquiao to so thoroughly dominate the rubber match. I thought Diaz would at least be competitive with Pacquiao, and picked DLH to beat Manny.
Yeah definately, Calzaghe put the "stay at home Joe" chants to the sword. Hopkins is a definate as well though, I thought he'd lose the Pavlik fight, but now after watching his masterclass, the thought of him losing to Pavlik now seems absurd!
calzaghe, especially being a brit. we all love to see our stars fall and always support the losers in life e.g. tim henman, england football (soccer) etc. and finally in him we have a winner and he gets bashed so so much.
