    BILLIONAIRE????

ROFL! You guys are really out of touch what people make.

You need to be Tiger Woods and Micheal Jordan level to even be considered in the BBC. And most of that money is earned OUTSIDE of the sport (image licensing, merchandising, promotions, etc).

And that is NET WORTH aka paper money - not actual money in the bank. That is a THEORETICAL value of all of their assets if they where able to liquidate them.

    ROFL DLH a billionaire!!

This what happens when people take a press release (purse earnings and PPV buys) as pure gospel.

His total lifetime revenues may well be much much higher than $250 million.

But once you factor in taxes (50% +), living expenses, 10 children, 5 wifes etc. $250m maybe does not sound so far off anymore.

Are we talking prizefighting purses or accumulated wealth through other interests other than the actual fighting?
If its just the purses then its hard to go past Tyson. The guy was getting 8 figure purses for fighting doughnuts at one stage. I read 300mill somewhere but whether you can believe it......

Woods WAS on track to be the first Billionaire athlete....

I wonder how much Max Schmelling was worth? He is usually mentioned when talking of a successul financial/business career after boxing.

Foreman was paid 400 mil for the rights to the grill .I am not sure how many years he collected royalties before that, His net worth may be down to 250 mil because of the huge fall in US assets in the last few years. This is from my memory of events that where reported in the media at the time! Wikipedia has a different story but as we know anyone can edit there.

I would say Foreman but If Tyson had a good head on his shoulders he could've easily became billionaire.

No, Tyson had enormous purses, but by the time he paid taxes, Don King, Don King again, Don King some more, his $20m+ purses became nearer $5m.

Can't believe no one has mentioned ali.

He earned 2.5m in 1971! That's like 25m in 2000. 5m for Foreman, 8m for Holmes. Endorsements etc after his affairs were being looked after - multi multi millions

Tyson's got to be a few hundred million with endorsements

If you adjust the money from the old days, then surely jack dempsey would have earned a massive amount of money no ?
