which NON HEAVYWEIGHT BOXER out of the list

    manny pacquiao - phillipines
    oscar dela hoya - usa
    julio cesar chavez - mexico
    felix trinidad - puerto rico
    roberto duran - panama
    ricky hatton - england
were/are the most popular in their prime in their respective countries?

by popular i mean the whole country pretty much who he was and what he did and they respected him as well.

i don't think the heavyweight crown is as coveted as it once was. i think it's a safe pick the pacman is the most popular. he's everywhere supposedly. oscar in his prime had record deals and his own clothing line, but when your more popular than the president and the country's national treasure, bro, what more could you ask for? and manny, being who he is, rightfully deserves all this attention. he's a humble special kind of person

This must be a rhetorical question.

I'll humor it though, it's clearly Pac. :deal

Over 120,000 people watched a fight in Mexico for Chavez, until someone even comes close to that I think that its a mute point

Wasn't Tito revered like a God in Puerto Rico as well? Can any Puerto Ricans here confirm that? I remember he was extremely popular even in the States, Mexico, everywhere.

Ricky Hatton certainly, especially after he defeated Castillo.

Amir Khan and Audley Harrison, albeit for different reasons, and Danny Williams, surprisingly enough.

It has to be between Pac, Kessler and Valuev.

First, Valuev is impossible not to recognize with his stand-out features.

Second, Pac is very popular in Phil.

Third, Kessler is immensely popular and was last year voted "sportsman of the year" ahead of all the other athletes.

We have to look in smaller countries, because in the bigges countries attention is too divided between more boxers that no single boxer gets all the attention.
