No doubt it has to be Pacman. I heard a thing on E60 on ESPN that warring factions and the criminals will join all other Filipinos to find the nearest TV set to watch Pac fight. So yea, Pac is the undisputed most recognized fighter in his home land because the country essentially stops to watch him fight!!

at present, pac easily. for past boxers, back in the 70's - 80's duran was MASSIVE in panama. national hero/ pride of the nation status. duran is easily the most popular and famous boxer in that country. the guy had a very compelling story, and was able to connect with most of society. he was influential to the degree that he had general torrijos's ear during his rule. considering duran was worshipped by the vast majority of panamanians (and they've had champions like laguna, al brown, predroza, zapata) that kind of fame is easily on level with pac's in the PI.

Pacquiao is the clear winner here.

Hatton in England would be second, definetly the most mainstream/crossover appeal.

If anyone recognized Joe Calzaghe they would probablly spit in his eye.

Nah mate. Everyone over here has heard of Hatton. There's a lot more to him than his boxing, hence why he is so popular.

In Oscar's book he explains how big Tito was/is in PR. Oscar's future wife, Millie, had only heard of Oscar because he had fought Tito.

It is because their mothers warn them that if they mis-behave, Tyson will come and eat their brains.
