To me John L Sullivan he is . there is just so many questions about him .how good he was? How good his opposition was? How hard did he hit? How does his power rank amongst other heavyweights ? Its just mind bottling i can do a whole lot of research about him . reading old newspapers and seeing several documentaries about him. I will have to do research one day i have free time.

Who in boxing history is your biggest enigma?

Whats one boxer no matter how much time you've spent studying , still leaves questions

Maxie Rosenbloom if you're talking H2H. No footage which never helps. An utterly unique, indescribable style and due to his inconsistency, it's hard to get a grip on what styles he struggled with and/or did well against.

I think the only thing you can guts against another ATG is that no-one is getting KOed.

A lot of guys in my time in the mid to late 1980s had "extracurricular" activities that led to very short yet indelible primes.

Consequently i wonder how many of these guys would have performed in pivotal fights free of drugs, womanising, problems and strife and weight making issues...that their more disciplined opponents avoided....therefore i think often....

How would the lloyd honeyghan of the don curry fight have done with breland & starling.

How would the Curry of the Mcrory fight have handled lloyd or hagler ?

    Tyson vs holyfield....

I also wonder what would occur if chris eubanks snr fought americans above the C tier.....

Gerald McClellan for me. Ive always wondered just how much he could’ve accomplished if his career wasn’t cut short, seemed to have talent and plenty of physical gifts. I’ve also been reading his book which makes me even more curious about him.

Joe Knight, light-heavyweight alphabet titlist. Bested Rosenbloom, who really rated him, but it never really happened for him in a wider sense.

    Centurion too.

    John Conteh.
    To me he had everything.
    A beautiful boxer / fighter.
If he had just handled his career better and stayed on the straight and narrow how great he could have been.

George “Kid” Lavigne, Oscar “Battling” Nelson, and Ad “Subtract” Wolgast. All talked about as old time greats, but all suffering from one hit wonder syndrome. Give me Charley White or Lockport Jimmy Duffy over any of them.

I really don't see how Kid Lavigne could be considered a one hit wonder at all. He dominated the division until he went into a serious decline (from drinking and not training).

He'd be a legitimate ATG without his wins over Walcot (though obviously not as high up), with his fights with Andy Bowen, Young Griffo, Dick Burge etc.

BTW there was exhibition footage of Dick Burge and Jack McAuliffe on YouTube, and Burge looks massive.

McAulffe was significantly bigger than Lavigne too.
