Prime Hagler, he never had an issue making weight, and looked like a spartan warrior anytime he entered the ring. But most world class fighters were pretty consistent with their conditioning, esp ATG's ( One of the reasons their ATG's)

Marciano and Hagler were the first to come to mind. When people wonder how a short-armed slower fighter like Marciano had a so much more successful career than so many guys with much more natural talent, it comes down to conditioning and determination.

Monzon defied all logic when he came to his conditioning .. He was a chain smoking, lean, mean, fighting machine who didn't seem to tire … It is said about Monzon that he smoked up to 5 packs a cigarettes a day, that's right 5. During serious conditioning he cut back to 2 and half packs a day … and smoked a couple cigs during his road work as well .. LOL

Too many to name, but I’ll name three.

Joe Louis before WWII was always in excellent shape. 6 miles per day of running kept him at a solid 198-203 lbs, which made him dangerous to the big men while still being quick enough to catch the smaller men.

Calzaghe also was always in exceptional shape. He’d run 6-10 miles a day and hit the pads with 24oz gloves, which made his hands lightning fast once he put on the lighter gloves.

Muhammad Ali in the 60’s also was fanatical about his conditioning. He ran 6-7 miles daily with steel toe boots and often ran with mini weights in each hand.

All these mentions and none for Henry Armstrong that i can see. You don't fight that often without being in supreme condition and a supposedly over sized heart and crazy slow heartbeat wouldn't have hurt either.

Man, there are so many greats who could get mentioned, but I narrowed it down to Tiger and Marciano because I don't feel like typing any more tonight.

When I think if fighters in shape I think of Marvin Hagler. He was the most dedicated and intelligent guy when it came to preparation and not taking anything for granted. That was important to him, and after Hearns he lost his edge there and was inactive an it might have caused the loss to Ray. I think he got all he wanted with the Hearns win and didn't want it anymore. Not really. But in my mind a champion Hagler is the epitome of the fighter in shape. Joe Calzaghe was always in shape. A true professional. Marlon Starling.
