But when winning the title he struggled badly v Norton and as time went on he beganto really struggle, Witherspoon gave him hell, so did Williams, he was decked by the slow-fisted Shavers also, Weaver had success v Larry also.

Miguel Canto, 14 successful defenses, 13 by decision, during the 15 round era. That must add up to a lot of rounds won.

I will never agree that Holmes struggled against Norton and will continue to say at every opportunity that he beat Norton six ways from Sunday. I can't think of any other fight where my perceptions are so at odds with the general consensus.

What you feel doesn't matter tho. Jones was winning the fight - fact.

Do you think that LHW was Roy's natural weight class?

Roy had turned the fight around with Griffin when he dropped him.

I agree. It was a great pretty evenly matched fight with great credit going to both fighters so why do you say that Holmes struggled badly against Norton? You seem to be contradicting your own post there.

McCallum`s body looked fleshy at LH compared to Roy`s, his body was far more defined at light middle.

If it was evenly matched then it means Holmes wasn`t dominating.

I did not mention anything about Holmes dominating. Just that you were wrong when you said that Holmes struggled badly against Norton.

The level of opposition doesn't matter.....that wasn't in the original question.
Had to be Roy Jones. Had 13 fights after Griffith and before Tarver; hardly lost a round.

Yes, he was 39, Roy was 27.

    Yes, Roy was cautious.

I don't really know where you're going with this. There's always the odd exception, but for the most part, Roy sailed through his reign barely losing rounds.

The McCallum fight wasn't even a defence. That was a title fight.

Even Floyd lost rounds here and there and had the odd tough fight.

Loma is great but he's only had about a dozen fights.

No 39 year old could have taken any rounds off of Mayweather or Loma at their respective weights if they were in their 20`s like Jones was, even if Mike McCallum was one of the greatest light middles of all time, he would have been toyed with by Archie Moore at light heavy.

But Bowe was beaten by Holy in the rematch and dropped a number of rounds in winning the title in their first fight and Ceran lost rounds to LaMotta because he fought a large part of their clash with one arm before having to quit on his stool in pain.
