I became interested when I read of a talented Romanian guy from Montreal who had beaten a good Russian fighter and was thought to be going places...I did a google search but could find no more than a couple of snippets...but then, I found a thread on a site called ESB...so signed up immediately.

I was a complete beginner; the only full boxing match I had watched previously was Arturo Gatti v. Dorin Doroftei

...So, I asked about this guy, "Lucian Bute"...

sean was the first to reply. He was welcoming and answered countless questions with great patience (and continues to do so to this day! :yep Thanks, sean!:good ) Maxime soon joined the thread and contributed some useful pointers...that was earlier in March...:yep

So, here's a big "Thank you!" to Lucian, sean and Maxime, and all the other posters who have answered questions, gave me pointers and provided great analysis for me to learn from since then...:happy :happy :happy

I remember as a young kid staying up till about 4 in the night to see Mike Tyson fight Lewis. That sparked an interest.

The interest faded until i saw Rocky which made the interest even bigger and thanks to Floyd vs. Oscar the interest became an obsession.

Calzaghe beating Eubank, Hamed beating Kelley at MSG, Lewis becoming Heavyweight champion. Since about 4-5 years old iv been a big fan of British boxers and followed them closely. I was a Hamed fanatic, when he lost to Barrera in 2001 i kinda took a couple of years out and didnt follow it much, but about 2003/2004 i started watching Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe coming through and start paying attention to world boxing. Barrera vs. Morales III made me really interested in boxing, what a fight that was.

I remember all the Eubank/benn/collins etc era, early 90s, I also remember as a young kid seeing Bruno a lot, so I guess I owe it to those folks for my love of boxing, but if I had to pin it on one bloke it would be Barrera, he cemented the sport as my obsession!

McGuigan first piqued my interest. Also Frank Bruno, Sugar Ray Leonard.
Herol Graham was the first boxer who really impressed me.
I became a die hard fan however, with the advent of the British middles like Benn, Eubank and Watson.

First time I saw a boxing match up on TV was at the age of 8 as Tyson mauled Ruddock in 6...

But it really got my attention at the age of 11 as Henry Maske beat "Prince" Charles Williams for th IBF light heavyweight crown...but it took a long time after Maske retired to get new interest in boxing - this time it were the Klitscho bros in a time in which I got to see lots of boxing from overseas. In the early 2000 this changed and international boxing was neary completely abandoned from German TV. At the end of 2003 I saw he pro debut of an Armenian-born middlweight who goes by the name of Arthur Abraham - till date I followed his whole pro career and his fights and success pushed me in late 2005 to join this board...and still, here I am to provide you with infos on German boxing...
