When Floyd announced his decision to retire I tohught that he would return to the ring at a later date and fight miguel cotto, but i now think that the only way floyd would return is if he could get in the ring with a Low risk High reward fighter. Now who in the business would be able to give floyd this oppurtunity.

Miguel Cotto - I think cotto is too much of a risk, and now that he has been beaten by Antonio Margarito the reward for beating Miguel Cotto would not be great, so for Floyd this is now a High Risk Low Reward fight.

Antonio Margarito - Antonio Margarito is big for a welterweight, and Floyd is small. However, most people think that Floyd's style of fighting would win him the fight convincingly against a pressure fighter. Just look at the names on his resume, Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Carlos Baldomir and Ricky Hatton. The only one of these fighters that floyd had trouble with was Castillo, out of the list he was the most complete pressure fighter, Corrales was too raw and could not close down the space, Gatti was way past it, Baldomir was too slow, and Hatton threw wild punches which were easy to counter. All the pressure fighters that Floyd fought had there problems, but Antonio Margarito doesn't have many, he can close space down, he can throw more punches per round than any other fighter floyd has faced, Margarito is possibly the most complete pressure fighter ever, similar to Castillo. So for the reasons why this fight does not suit Mayweather are that Margarito is just too dangerous of a fighter to get in with.

Paul Williams - Now I said that Margarito was big for a welterweight, Paul Williams is on another level. He is a fighter that will cause any welterweight problems, but he would cause floyd more problems, Williams could easily out punch and out work mayweather and he has the boxing abilities to box with mayweather. On the other hand Williams has been convincingly outboxed by quintana already, and this may tempt floyd, but promoting a fight against williams is not "smart business decisions". Williams doesn't bring the money that the likes of delahoya and hatton would bring him, Williams doesn't have a fanbase to compare to the likes of cotto, margarito, delahoya and hatton. So this fight is a risk with small reward financially and legacy wise.

Ricky Hatton - Hatton looks like a finished fighter, defensively very poor, and mayweather has already defeated him. Now this fight is not too much of a risk, if floyd takes the fight in england, he could easily make as much money as he did do against delahoya. However, with this fight the reward is not there, there is nothing to gain except more critics if floyd decides to return and fight hatton.

Oscar Delahoya - A fight that would make money but no sence, there is not any need for this fight, it has been and gone and fighting delahoya would just cause more critics to critisize.

Zab Judah - Now this weekend he fights for the IBF belt, against a very good and dangerous fighter in Joshua Clottey. If Judah wins there is little chance of Mayweather coming back to fight him, but if Judah wins, fights in december against delahoya, and convincingly wins, he is a big player in the division again. However, he would then have to rectify his loss against Miguel Cotto without even thinking about anything else. If Judah ages well, and with Floyd sr becomes a better fighter he could cause cotto problems, he is only 30 and has got a couple of good years left in him, if he manages to beat cotto i think he brings everything to the table to tempt Mayweather. The last time he fought Mayeather he was coming of a loss, he wasn't a confident fighter, and got outboxed by Mayweather. But now with Floyd sr in his corner there is no better man who knows how to beat his son, he did create the boxer he is today. If Judah wins this fight he could become the best welterweight of this generation, he has all the skill but has never always had the right people behind him, Floyd sr could take Judah to another level. For Mayweather he has the oppurtunity to fight someone who is the person that looks to be taking his position as the best welterweight of this generation. He gets the oppurtunity to prove he can beat anyone, and Mayweather may think that this fight is a Low Risk High Reward fight as it is someone he has already beaten. And imagine the promoting of this fight, two thrash talkers in Zab and Floyd and the stryline with Floyd sr in Judha's corner.

Realistically i think Mayweather will not return but if Zab Judah has a great year i think he could be the man to get Floyd back in a ring.

    What do you think?

Where would the fight happen, floyd would not go below 147, and pacquiao would be very small for a welterweight. but if pac decides to take the risk i could see floyd coming back.

I think Floyd during his fighting day's could have still made 140.
    (Any Floyd fan's agree?)

If Pac can somehow pull off a Win against ODLH...
That would be the only way....(AKA prob not gonna happen)

2 guys can bring Floyd back with the quickness. Margarito and Williams, if they fight each other the winner will be the undisputed WW champ and probably have the most ground to call Floyd back to make it worth his while.

I can see it now, the former WW champ against the current WW champ.

I want to see Floyd really do it all, not just say he's done it all. He should go for the biggest title on earth. Challenge Sam Peter for the heavyweight title. I think he's fast enough to stick and move against Peter. Wlad has too high a chance of tagging him with a jab or left hook which would end the fight on the spot.

Pac and Hatton winner is most likely... therefore Pacquiao. But Floyd is too scared that he will lose his 0 to fight him. Saying that, if hatton doesnt fight Pac and beats malignaggi, a rematch could be on the cards as PBF said he always wanted to fight in England. Wembley stadium for a shocking match between two fighters that are past their best that Mayweather will win by UD

Something that can bring a lot of money...tons of money...like the Hatton or the Oscar fight.

    1. A fight against Mosley (if he beats Mayorga)

    2. A rematch against Oscar

    3. A fight against Pacman (if he beats Oscar)

    4. A fight against Cotto (if Cotto was still undefeated and had beat Margo)

    5. A rematch against Hatton (depends on who Hatton beats)

    Great post.

I personally think it can be either "Toni'' or Judah. Judah for the reason's you mention (although a lot of ''if's'') and Toni because he beat Cotto and is, imo, a beatable foe fo Floyd.
