    True.

When you try to disect every situation and circumstance it almost takes away from the actual film itself. I still prefer they stay closer to the facts and not try to BS with fictional stuff that gobbles minutes. Yeah, drama is nice and magnified that much more when the research is done properly. Recognizing a character by face and voice is always a pleaseant surprise in a film. Makes you think the director really cares who the person was they were trying to portray.

Not a boxing movie, but Gordon Parks "Leadbelly" with Roger E. Mosley is a good view for any music fan, especially those who like the blues. He did his research and made a movie that was better than decent.

Who would play Sullivan and who would play Corbett?

Antonio Banderas could probably play Monzon. It would be wise to have a spanish speaking lead for some of the scenes where subtitles are needed. Banderas would have to bulk up though.

Sullivan might have been a twat, but in some ways, a more sympathetic character emerges when you study him.

yes it would benefit the movie massively to make him several dimensions. I would be interested in reading more about his time of prizefighting, I have only gleaned internet stuff up to now.

I always imagine John L Sullivan having a haughty british accent something like Windsor Davis from It Aint Half Hot Mum....lol, I dont know why I think that...perhaps its that utterly stupid moustache he had.

SHame there were no recorded interviews of him, i guess because he drank himself to death relatively young like so many other 19th century fighters who would have been fascinating to hear interviews for - quite possible if they had lived really long lives instead of giving up the ghost in the thirties and forties (after all, we have recorded interviews with those african americans who were harshly kidnapped and unjustly imprisoned for no reason for their whole lives on plantations, so you'd expect their contempararies, many of whom were ex-prisoners of plantations or 'children of sugar crop' to have recorded something too).

The most bizarre thing about the coverage of the Dempsey - Carpentiers fight in BOARDWALK EMPIRE was the way people/spectators sat down on chairs in a tent all dressed up in their suits and best dresses round a... ... RADIO lol to listen to the fight, as opposed to our mass convergence around an HD 50 inch screen.

I thought that was a touch of bizzare genius, whoever put together that scene for authenticity's sake.

RJJ could be a good one. The best fighter on the planet to someone who needs to let go of boxing
