Good thread! Tarver did start pro very late but lets not forget he was in the fkn Olympics! He definitely had boxing in his blood. For the Aussies - Anthony Mundine started pro when he was 25. Amatuer Exp - 4 fights. First world title shot in 10 fights... against Sven Ottke.
Ray Mercer -WBO HW Champ. Started I believe at 27 after the Olympics. I'm surprised no one mentioned him.
Rogan is the most recent that comes to mind, Skelton had alot of Kickboxing experience bofore he boxed.
No bother, think those two show that you don't have to have a pair of Gloves put on soon as you're born to be a success. Malignaggi and Steve Cunningham are another two I forgot.
It just shows that boxing is God given,Either you have it or you don't!! you cant teach God given talent.
tarver was around 28. And i think Hopkins was in his mid twenties when he turned pro because of being in jail
Jess Willard had his first fight at 29 then shortly there after become heavyweight champ. I still say that you can learn to box in six months and than fight for a world title.
What do you mean by 'started out late'? As in started boxing at a late age or turned pro at a late age? Casamayor was a top amateur who looked a sure thing to be a good pro.
