Obviously most boxers want both. The odd few just do it for money. I can't think of any that do it purely for legacy.

But which Fighters to you think believe that there legacy is more important than the money they bring in.

    For Me its:

    Carl Froch

    Amir Khan

    The K-Bro's seem to care

Bradley (Would have been a cert until he turned down Khan Fight)

    Mosley

    Morales

Thoughts on the ones I mentioned? Who do you think?

Bradley turned down a career high payday against an elite divisional opponent to move up in weight and make a career high payday against a legendary fighter. Bradley is the definition of your list.

Khan was questioned for some time about a Prescott rematch. Picked lesser fights than Maidana II.

Morales, Mosley, Froch for sure... K Bro's yes and no...

Darchinyan, Donaire, and Calderon 100% too.

yes, but only becuse the pac fight wasn't confirmed. but i agree, i'm being too harsh bradley will be a good example.

Your being a bit too harsh on khan. He didn't rematch maidana. but its a stacked division. So its not like he was fighting stiffs. He wanted to clean out the division and unifiy all belts. So i see why he wouldnt have seen the point in rematching maidana. Especially unless he picked up one of the belts.

And again prescott was no longer ranked anywhere, so beating him wouldnt really affect his legacy.

Morales said in the Chavez doc when you get old as a fighter you fight mostly for money.

For the last 3-4 years El Terrible been trying to pay the billa

Donaire's contract dispute was partly based on the fact that he was more interested in Molitor or Vazquez Jr than Moreno. Would have fought Mijares instead of Mathebula without HBO intervention, would have fought Arce instead of Nishioka without being turned down, and is about to fight Arce instead of Rigondeaux.

yes that make sence. you know you only got a few fights left in you, so you just try to make as much money as possible.

Mosley and Marquez are both in that mindset now.

Martinez and Cotto are more in that mindset than before too.

So i suppose it can change at differant stages of a fighters career.

I personally find it impressive when a fighter reaches the level where they are at the top, and making money. And still continue to take risks. Like Mosley after he beat delahoya the 1st time could have milked it better.

Bradley, really:yep? I'm not even going to diss him on this 'cause to be fair I don't think there's ANY fighter that cares less about money than about their legacy, AND if there was one, or two actually, would probably be Mayweather and pacquiao who are not getting a highest payday for fighting each other and even then they r doing this because they probably want to milk their careers as long as they can b4 that fight!
Just ask any fighter: "We r gonna get u the biggest fight u can ever make, it's gonna give u a nice legacy in the sport, BUT we'll keep the money, don't worry, we'll donate a % to ur favorite charity!!" What do u think their response be??..... More than likely they would screw the legacy.... And I wouldn't blame them...

It says alot about yourself this post.

Yes people will still want the money. But for the purest of people in any sport or any thing, integrity and achievements are more important.

Some of the best musicians, artists, actors and sportment, are the best in there field because the work they produce and the legacy they leave behind them is more important.

Personally money means F'All to me, and if i had dedicated my life to boxing and was fighting at an elite level, being thought of as the best would be more important to me, than money.

:huh Hmmm, weird, because I was having a talk with a friend the other day about Cotto and this same issue... I mean, so u don't think Cotto, at this stage of his career could have taken a less risk/bigger reward than Trout??? I definitely beg to differ from that! It takes balls to do that kind of move at this point in his career. We the fans win though, and I commend Cotto for that!

cotto has said himself that he's fighting for money now.

The reason for this is, I think Cotto wants the Belt and will beat Trout quite easily, and Cotto knows this.

I think out of options available to him, I'm not sure if there were many easier fights. Especially considering Trout has a belt. He's had some good exposure, yet also struggled against fighters that aren't in the same league as Cotto.

The Riskier fights are Lara and Golovkin and Martinez. Cloud compared to those 3 is an easier fight where he can also win a belt.

U r definitely taking me wrong. Yes, legacy is supremely important, and when it's all said and done it'd be great to look back at all the achievements, success and memories that money cannot just buy, but u don't want to leave this sport like a Benitez, broke and without health just in the name of a legacy, AND BELIEVE ME, he does have one, just happens he cannot enjoy it since he doesn't even know where he's at. And to think he did it all for his fans and his footprint in the sport he loved.. I think boxers nowadays have learned from that and want to make sure their families are taken care for after they are done with the sport. There's nothing wrong by putting your family first, I think, but for that u would need money... For me, health and family first, then legacy. You (at least me) wouldn't be able to enjoy the latter without the first two, then again, that's just me!!
Now.... What does my previous post says about me, sir????
