    Black fighters pre-Ali.

respectfully, i think the tide shifted some time before ali. yes, there was a degree of mob control and racism before that (ending with liston) but black fighters got title shots post-dempsey era

Trevor Berbick - Lucky because he got to beat up an old Ali
Trevor Berbick - Unlucky because he ran into a prime Tyson

totaly agree Lamotta would been a lot happier if Robinson had not been an absolute force of nature! Also Joe C was lucky to be around after the best SMW crop had past, his best names were well past their best.

Any tens of dozens of greats/near greats/very good fighters who fought in the same era and division of an extraordinary master champion. It's an endless list.

    - Tendler, Welsh, Kilbane, Dundee etc in Benny Leonard's day
    - Buchanan and DeJesus in the Duran era
    - Winstone and Ramos in Saldivar's heyday
    - Rudkin crossing Harada, Rose and Olivares in his 3 title cracks
    - Enrique Bolanos and Freddie Dawson against Ike Williams
    - Cokes and Benvenuti crossing paths with Napoles and Monzon
    - Kates, Ahumada and Lopez in the 70's light heavy scene
    - Kid Lewis having to split dibs with Britton

And so on and so forth....

Frank Bruno: Unluckiest mandatory title defense ever, following his title winning effort against McCall.

Surprised no one has said Ali yet. Although the man had an unbelievable career what could have been considered his prime years were arguably taken away from him.

fernando vargas - faced prime/near prime versions of dlh, trinidad, wright, quartey, mosley, and mayorga within only 31 career fights...although he did win a couple of titles he's the perfect example of somebody being matched too tough too early too soon
