I was watching youtube and noticed a a show with Sly Stone from the music group and he told the host that his martial arts skills would best Muhammad Ali. When Ali came out, he was asked the same question and Ali said the boxer would stand no chance and Ali knew his stuff when it came to fighting However, I think certain fighters would prove too quick for many and if properly prepared, would come out victorious I know it's long been in the minds of ESBers
top boxer wips the floor with the vast majority of mma fighters with even a little bit of cross training. on the other hand a top mma fighter eould get humiliated by even journeyman..... Both are tough, but It's harder to get to the top in boxing than in MMA.
The movie Ip Man 2 gave the boxer way too much credit in my opinion. In the real world it might be a case of ability/skill level as well as who lands first and of course size would factor in. All things being equal a good boxer would beat an average martial artist whilst a good martial artist would beat an average boxer. Likely also a good martial artist might beat a good boxer although it might depend on any number of things. I'd put a prime Roy Jones Jr above a judo champion for instance but someone like Donnie Yen would eat him alive. To clarify lets say Bruce Lee takes on Manny Pacquiao, both of whom are fast with a similar build - in my opinion Lee would beat Manny very easily because his overall skill base was much higher and he had more 'weapons' and a better level of knowledge at his disposal.
Kermit Cintron would have been a threat in MMA. Nobody would be able to trade with him & he had a solid background in Wrestling.. he was offered a college scholarship with Ohio I believe but turned it down to concentrate on boxing.
With a little cross training an elite boxer destroys the vast majority of MMA fighters... For ****s sake you have Clowns like Schaub, and Mitrione coming over from the NFL in their late 20s-early 30s cracking the top 20 with no wrestling background
Boolsheet. Do you know how hard it would be for a Boxer to defend a takedown, head kicks and leg kicks even after months of practice? Very hard.
The only thing they would have to prepare for is the takedown.... Do you really think these MMA guys can trouble a pro boxer on the feet? An elite boxer with a good sprawl would wreak havoc in the UFC.... Not the first time a pure striker with that gameplan came over and dominated, Cro Cop a pure kickboxer got to the top after training wrestling for only a few years. Are you telling me that a top boxer couldn't do the same?
Have you ever took a full-on leg kick? Crocop was one of THE most well rounded STRIKERS on the planet. You think Mayweather, Golovkin, Kovalev or anyone else has got anything left once their hands are taken away from them? The ranges between Boxing and thai or kickboxing are so vast it's silly. This debate got settled in 1993. besides, look at some of the boxers in k-1 and see how that turned out for them... If you think that ONLY FISTS beats EVERYTHING ELSE in a FIGHT, you have no idea what you're on about.
Besides... It is a HELL OF A LOT EASIER to score a takedown on someone than it is to KO someone. Just watch a Boxing match and see how how quickly it ends in the clinch. Mayweather, Klit, Nard... damn, they'd be on the floor within 20/30 seconds.
Yeah it got settled because Art Jimmerson a journeyman who had no clue about what he was getting into lost to Royce Gracie a BJJ master.... Obviously they would have to dedicate themselves and cross train extensively, but I believe almost any elite boxer could make the transition to MMA and do well with the right kind of preparation. Checking kicks is not that hard to learn lol..... There are plenty of UFC fighters who have virtually no kicking game that do damn well, Chris Weidman a wrestler who is primarily a boxer when standing broke Anderson Silvas leg on a checked kick. Even then, there aren't many UFC fighters with dangerous low kicks that would trouble boxers enough to gain their respect. Do you agree that a boxer with a good sprawl and the ability to check kicks would cause lots of problems for most fighters? Yes or No? How many boxers participated in K-1. Can you tell me? Because I followed K-1 extensively, and the only boxers I know that competed were Ray Mercer, Francois Botha, and Shannon Briggs(although he fought Tom Erikson a MMA fighter) Mercer and Botha were past their primes just looking for a paycheck, and not only that they were facing guys who are several levels above the vast majority of UFC fighters in terms of technical ability........
Yeah because the Klitschkos wouldn't do better than buffoons like Schaub, & Mitrione with a bit of cross training.... Give me a ****ing break Lets also not forget that the Klitschkos have all the money in the world, & can fly in the best sparring partnerst, trainers at their own leisure. Within a year of cross training they would be better than the vast majority of heavyweights in terms of all around skill.
Street fights are won with the first clean punch landed. MMa is pretty useless in a street fight against gang landers.
