You're awesome at what you do, and you're better than Rafael and most other boxing writers, you're far more legit that I am, although only IB can hang with me when it comes to obnoxious bellicose op-eds.:ggg

    Not to mention Stephen Hawking.

Journalists should be judged as journalists, boxers as boxers.

I spat out my coffee when I read this.

Fat Dan has definitely sparred the cashier at his local Dunkin Donuts when he was told there will be a 5 minute wait for a fresh batch.. Fat Dan wants his donuts immediately at his request..

I think of Rafael as more of a reporter than writer — he breaks news constantly, gets his hands on documents of failed drug tests, tells what fights are made before they are announced, what’s going on behind the scenes in negotiations, reports purses that aren’t made public, etc.

Those who think they can writer better than him: tell us about your sources and show us what news you break.

There’s a lot more to the job than just prose.

In general, I prefer boxing writers who attended journalism school or majored in English over guys who took up boxing writing as a hobby because they like boxing or used to box.

The guys who boxed tend to just pen editorials spouting their opinions and, typically, they aren't good writers. The guys who take up boxing writing as a hobby just write what amount to blog posts.

Good journalists, on the other hand, are strong writers who interview and quote experts with differing opinions. With them, you seem to get more balanced articles. Among my favorites are writers from the early 20th century who may not have gone to college but worked their way up in the newspaper business and learned to write quality copy (thanks to the guidance of top writers and editors on staff).

Everyone's got an opinion. I want to read well-written stories with actual content.

    i like this bud.

boxing fans who write usually are very biased towards there favourite fighters (although they will think they are not) which affects the article.
Journalism is difficult, it takes people years to get to a decent level, not just on a forum.

I have no interest in being respected as a writer, all I care about is that I have an opinion that I want to be heard, and if people like that, and enjoy what I write then that's more than good enough for me. Like I said earlier, I'm very biased and I wear that on my sleeve and I'm honest as hell about it, I have no desire to be impartial, the rest only pretend to be and usually fail miserably at concealing it.
