I see posters have listed most of the fighters that I had thought of. So let me add one to the list I haven't seen:

John Stracey- Went into the lions den (Mexico City) and got up from a 1st round knock down, and beat the great Jose Napoles, for the welterweight title. Lost his title in a gallant effort against Carlos Palomino.

    Howard Winstone was pretty good.

Has an interesting story, what with the damaged hand.

Yes he did...he took advantage of his opportunity in The Man's backyard...having said that, you know that he would have been humiliated just a few years earlier by the great Mantequilla.

Froch taking an immediate rematch against a guy who boxed him sideways and coming out with a ko victory is what greatness is made of.
Most guys would of ran from Groves , but the turn around Froch made was truly impressive.
I think Groves will go on to have a very respectable career and Froch will go down as a legend for that rematch victory.

Ken Buchanan - and I´ve seen him train and fight. Oozing of class. Next on my list is another visitor to Denmark - Bunny Sterling. Arriving here as canon-feed for Tom Bogs. Watched him at the gymn, preparing for the fight - I knew he would defeat Bogs - and he boxed rings around Bogs, totally outboxing the Dane from the distance. Bogs hardly landed a punch. and there was no way the Danish judges could score the fight for Bogs - beside Monzon it was the worst beating Bogs ever took.

Buchanan was a beautiful boxer to watch, his non-title points win over donato puduano is the best display of boxing I've ever seen. Bunny stifling is a much underrated British fighter.

McCall was a good fighter severly let down by drug abuse and personal demons. If his head was on straight he would have been one of the better heavyweights of the era but because he was inconsistant and mentally unstable he failed to live up to his potential

In a fight Lewis didn't take seriously, wasted most of his training/preparation time filming a part in Oceans 11 and turned up in South Africa only slightly over a week before the fight giving himself no time to acclimatise to the environment. Right up until the point he got knocked out Lewis wasn't treating Rahman with any respect and was egging him on and mocking him during the fight. I dont think anyone anywhere believes that if Lewis had taken Rahman seriously to begin with the fight would have been anything other than an easy Lewis win.

Met Vitali on equal terms and beat him fair and square. Whether he was "lucky" or not is irrelevant.

Was put in a smaller than usual ring which favored Mercer, won most of the later rounds and if it had been 12 rounds instead of 10 then there would likely be no controversy and Lewis would have won by UD

And is practially universally considered one of the worse robberies in boxing history. Holyfield lost that fight easilly and everybody knew it except two judges.

Fighters age differently and Lewis was an old 37/38.

    Not his fault.

He didn't specifically seek out a rematch with McCall, the WBC ordered it and Don King refused to replace McCall when he got arrested in December 1996 and questions were raised by Lewis's camp and the TV executives about McCall's state of mind.

Akinwande refused to fight and spent the entire four and a bit rounds just clinching and hugging. He was warned repeatedly by Miles Lane but continued to do it and got himself disqualified.

His best wins are 1992 #4 ranked heavyweight Ruddock, 1999 P4P #3 Holyfield and prime Vitali Klitschko

Because Don King sued him to get Lewis stripped of the WBA title after one fight because Lewis wanted to fight the opponent everyone at the time wanted him to fight - Michael Grant - before fighting his WBA mandatory - John Ruiz. He was prepared to fight Ruiz and offered to do it after fighting Grant but King refused to consider it.

Didn't have one-punch KO power and didn't have an iron jaw but was one of the stronger heavyweights of the era and had a better chin than people give him credit for - as fights against Mercer and Vitali proved.

Dont see how. Apart from Bowe - who shamelessly ducked him - Foreman - who didn't want to fight him - Moorer - who didn't want to fight him - and Wlad - who didn't want to fight him prior to 2004 - I dont see which heavyweights of his era he missed out on.

Holyfield/Lewis didn't happen prior to 1999 because Holyfield lost to Bowe and Moorer while Lewis lost to McCall. Tyson/Lewis didn't happen earlier than 2002 because Tyson went to prison in 1992, avoided Lewis in 1996 in favor of a bigger payday against Holyfield, got banned from boxing until 1999 and upon his return avoided a fight with Lewis until he needed the money too badly to turn it down.
