Since they all look pretty different, I'm not so sure how mechanics work behind each one except the first one. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Three of those are for wood beams and one is for steel ceiling I-beam. I dont have any place in my home to use any of those.
None of them. I have an 80 lb. heavy bag hanging under my back porch. The 2x10 joist is exposed but what I'm using would work if you have sheetrock over your joists in a finished basement application. All I have is a heavy duty 3/8 " thick closed eye hook that is threaded like a screw. Pre-drill the beam and screw the eye hook into it then put a double swivel between the bag and eyehook so the bag can rotate. If your ceiling is finished, locate the center of the 2x and do the same thing. The way I describe will cost less than $10 and can be bought at any hardware or big box store.
^Thanks Gumbo. Right now I have an unfinished basement that I plan on renovating in the next year so everything is exposed right now. 3/8'' is the thickness of the eye hook, but what is the length? Is it secure enough to support a bag through all the punishment? I already have a chain with a double swivel so all I need is the eye hook.
The one I used had a 3 inch coarse thread screw type cut, very similar to a lag bolt thread cut. I simply pre drilled the hole with a 1/4" bit about half the thread length to make getting it started a lot easier and once it got a ways in, I took a piece of pipe through the eye opening to finish screwing it in. It has held up for several years now.
