easily walk in and win the title today in all the weight classes with no problems at all? are there any that could do this. ie whos whipping hopkins?
co-sign. Please clarify post. Are you asking if there is guy (and we can choose from the whole history of the fight game) who could walk into a title fight with any of todays beltholders/divisional No.1's and win with ease???? Of course there is; for most divisions there would be about 100 names you could pick from.
In weight classes that are prety weak at present a whole sh1t load could do it. We might conclude for example that if Ezzard Charles was starting out at light heavyweight today he would have a prety bright future. In the stronger weight classes it gets more interesting.
i think he might mean is there a 105 pound 6 foot 5 fighter from the past who could march from straw weight to heavy winning everything in his wake ? just like bernard hopkins :huh
I'm not sure if I'm addressing the post properly, but here is my interpretation. Heavyweight - Mike Tyson circa 1987-88, could have cleaned house on today's heavyweights. Cruiserweight - Evander Holyfield Lightheavyweight - Mike Spinks, would likely have dominated today's lightheavyweight picture, especially considering that most of its current participants are between 36-45 years of age, and came from lighter weight classes. Super middle - Difficult to say. The division is not that old, but I think a prime Roy Jones could have beaten all of today's super middles. Middleweight - Hagler would have had a better than average chance here. Jr. Middle - I'll go with Mike McCallum Welter - Simon Brown, Ray Leonard, or Henry Armstrong are good candidates. Jr. Welter - Julio Cesar Chaves, Aron Pryor and Oscar D. Are all worthy mentions Lightweight - Pernell Whitaker, Benny Leonard and a few others... I'll stop there......
I don't think thats it. Didn't Georges Carpentier cover a lot of divisions over the span of his career. In the modern day I think Pacquiao started off as a straweight; in his next fight he faces DLH at Welterweight (quite a big spread as well).
armstrong i would like to see against a more schooled defencive fighter. he would glide over the 126 to 135 i feel but 147 could be a big difference. beating barney ross was a good achiemvent but in th edays of 12 rounders armstrong would of walked away with a draw. i think robinson could go from 147 to 160 and maybe a title at 168. but there would be a ton of us saying how open his defence. he would have a about 3 losses.
yeah carpentier was a featherweight when he was about 15 or so. cant remember the facts. but yeah he was. the wieghts arent there on boxrec but he was a sanctioned feather. sam langford could be put into the equasion. i just dont know how he would of faired with differents rulings.
i like a prime Duran. he gives anyone 130-154lbs problems. i would of really liked to of have seen a rematch with tommy or benitez. i think tommy beat him fairly, but he seemed to not give a **** vs. benitez. anyways, he always had that one punch ko power in the right.
I think Duran cleans up from light to middle quite easily elchiv...he would be a serious chance of at least grabbing a title at supermiddle aswell.
Salvador Sanchez,Ray Robinson,Henry Armsrong,Bob Foster,Monzon,Hagler,Duran,Pryor,Ali ,Foreman, to name a few.
Roberto Duran would probably be the P4P #1 with ease if he was boxing today in his prime. He'd probably unify at 140.
I reckon at least mate. There is quite simply no fighter right now from 135-160 that Duran at his best couldnt beat. Especially now Bernard has left the building at middleweight so to speak.
