    Most of today's alpha guys.
Douglas depending on which version showed up.
Lewis IF he lands that one huge shot right away, other than that he gets blown out.
Michael Spinks (I don't see Spinks dealing with the power well)
    Possibly old Foreman.

I don't think he could beat Patterson or Terrell personally. I think you'd see him miss a lot in the first instance and pretty much frustrated in the second instance.

Actually, although i don't think high of the old Foreman, i think he is one of the worst stylistic matchups for Shavers. Old Foreman had a great chin, decent stamina and was a bit better technically. He'd probably soak up what Shavers has and stop him late, probably a bit like Cobb did.

Tommy Burns would beat Shavers, First off no one ko Burns for the ten count. Not even Jack Johnson could have put Burns down for the full count. 2nd, Burns is a underated puncher, and 3rd is Shavers bad stimia. I give Burns a great shot in beating Shavers. The first rounds will be a great brawl, but once Burns long term stimia and power comes into play, I cant see a gas Shavers pulling it off.

He would be the underdog against virtualy all lineal champions but ironicaly his power would give him a chance against most of them.

I don't think Shavers is an obvious winner over Patterson, Terrell, or Johansson. I think it more likely the more skilled Johansson gets to him before he gets to Johansson.

Terrell was never world heavyweight champion.

Certainly Shavers could beat virtually any champion, with his level of punching power. When it comes to who he probably would beat, I would say Marvin Hart, maybe Burns or Carnera, Spinks, Douglas, Briggs and Rahman. Perhaps Michael Moorer as well.

My instinct is that Marvin Hart would beat Shavers. He was tough durable and determined. Exactly the characteristics that spell trouble for Shavers.

I also think that Tommy Burns would probably beat him for similar reasons.

His power would give him a good chance against guys like Ramhan Moorer and Johansen but all would just as likley stop him.

I dont think he would beat Patterson. He could potentialy but the chances are that Patterson would get him first.

I think he'd slaughter Patterson most of the time, honestly.

Shavers was the only man to ever spark Jimmy Ellis, who was a very slick fighter himself. Guy started out as a middleweight, after all, and has wins over the likes of Patterson.

The comparison with Ellis is a poor one.

Patterson was a better finisher than Jerry Quarry and had much faster hands.

I think Shavers would only need to make one mistake.

I have serious reservations about a 5'7", 168 pound man beating one of the hardest hitting heavyweights of all time. I also don't see the relovance in making the comparison between Johnson and Shavers. Just because Burns survived the Galveston giant does not guarantee him a pass against a man who was a much more lethal puncher and who came up in an era of naturally bigger men. You also talk about stamina but forget that Shavers also went 15 rounds with Muhammad Ali, 12 rounds with Holmes in their first meeting, and 11 rounds with Larry in the rematch. He also had both of them saying that he was the hardest puncher by far that either had ever faced and nearly decapitated Holmes. He also went 10 rounds to stop the big and dangerous Roy " Tiger" Williams, even after being dropped once.

I think people get carried away with this whole concept about Shavers having poor stamina, bad defense, a weak chin, and minimal skill. Most of Earnie's losses came either before or after he had peaked, and he was possibly a man with poor managment who fought extremely often with little preparation early on. From 1975-1979, however his resume was pretty solid and there weren't many guys beating him.
