Cooper didn`t fight Liston but gave Ali a few problems I`d say he may have been better than some contenders around at that time, his left hook was quick and powerful.

Moore called Marciano a coward for retiring with a bad back and if he had stuck around he would of faced Liston or maybe Paterson.

If Rocky hadn`t of hurt his back he would have faced Paterson who may have been better than the contenders Rocky fought specifically in terms of age.

Though the lack of a win over the number 2 of his era does blunt it somewhat. It's totally understandable he didn't want to fight Vitali, but still.

Anyone could always fight longer, and would always lose eventually.

Tyson cleaned his 80s era as good as anyone.

    Jeffries cleaned his era.

    Sullivan also.

Marciano had no real challenges left.

Louis and Ali are obvious examples.

I say Lewis eventually did it when he retired, there were no realistic challengers left. Wlad i Guess likewise, but it took the retirement of his brother, who was always considered a factor even when retired.

There are plenty of examples in the lower divisions

But Marciano was always underestimated by some because his best opponents were old Paterson would have been the best win of his career, his hands were faster than Charles and Walcott and he was in his prime.

Paterson came a long just as Marciano retired and Moore called Rock a coward for retiring.

Tyson didn`t fight Holy when he was no.1 contender for a year.

He said told Cuevas face to face on TV he would fight him, when Cuevas was the dominant WW champ, and he said Benitez deserved a rematch (post SRL v WB I). This was before the Duran I fight had been made.

Didn't Carlos Monzon dominate his era?

Tyson had already cleaned the division by this time.

There will always be a new no 1 contender, but no one really gave Holyfield or Douglas a decent chance at the time.

But Holy was better than all the contenders Tyson had fought at that point except Tony Tucker.

Sorry I agree, and he would have landed a lot less punches on Bryd than he would of on Bowe. I forgot about Bryd, he didn`t throw enough counters though, his performance against Wlad was better than Bowe would have done in his prime I feel.
