Which Cotto has or had a better chance:

Prime Cotto vs. Prime Mayweather at 147 when both were in their prime!

    vs.

31 Yr Old Cotto vs. 35 yr Old Mayweather at 154....

I know we didn't get this fight at 147 when they were both in their primes but honestly; i like Cotto's chances more now at 154 then back then at 147...

Yes, Cotto is more battle worn but Mayweather has shown that when he is touched; his chin is not that good; good thing that he doesn't get touched often.

Miguel Cotto has more confidence having overcome Margarito, he is bigger, wiser and younger than Mayweather.. Mayweather is still on top, but he is not what he used to be... it happens with Age.

Cotto has more of a shot now.. in 2012 then back then in 2008-2009 in my opinion. He has no excuses.. Mayweather deserves credit for taking this at 154...

This is a interesting battle, and I honestly think that pride leads before the fall.

Mayweather took this fight at 154 to prove to Manny that he wasn't afraid of Cotto at a higher weight because Manny didn't want to go up to 150... It will be a war, Mayweather over Cotto 115-113 UD with people demanding a rematch because of how close the fight was!

Cotto was at his best from Zab through Margarito. He would have been hell for Floyd at the time. He had relentless pressure, great body work, excellent combinations and inside fighting..He hasnt faced tough opposition since Manny, if people want to criticize Bob for matchmaking, then heres your chance..
I just hope he doesn't make the mistake of trying to outbox Floyd. but i think this Cotto can make it a really rough fight for Floyd..

Floyd is a stylistic nightmare for Cotto, always has been, always will be.

When Cotto gets dominated on May 5th, this will be clear for all to see.

This Cotto has a better chance of beating Floyd than a prime cotto vs prime Mayweather. Prime Mayweather would not lose to many fighters, past or present.

Mayweather has shown that when his chin has been touched its not that good? What?

He took an absolute bomb of a right hand of Shane, didn't go down, still had the senses to hold on so Shane couldn't follow up.. then continued on to be on top for the rest of the round.

He has a better shot now...he is more experienced himself. has shown a tighter defense than his days at 140 and steadily got better at 147 and now its much better...also he has better vision, having modified his stance under Steward and Diaz he isnt as susceptible to straight rights and uppercuts.....which he had problems with in his early development...also he paces himself better and is a better counter pucher....Mayweather moves less now and throws less combinations which will give Cotto a chance to win some close rounds because of his work rate....if they were prime for prime he'd probably get stopped on cuts or accumilation late....now its more of a UD loss ina competitive fight

That remains to be seen; we haven't seen Cotto pressure like he used to in his prime in years. If there's a time to turn back the clock, it's now, and combining that with the added dimensions Pedro Diaz is providing would make this version have a much better chance. We'll see how confident he is coming forward against Floyd.

What's the difference between Mayweather now and in his prime? If anything he's stronger and more experienced now, I haven't seen any signs of slowing down from May. The only advantage I see for Cotto is that the fight is at 154 lbs. This sort of nullifies Floud's new physical strength.

Cotto did not have any chance outside of a puncher luck. Mayweather is the best boxer all time and is the best by far in the history of the compubox. Right now Cotto will be more careful, more discipline and better trained, but anyways he will face a formidable opponent who can fight any type of fight with the same quality, that is what set apart floyd from sweet pea, leonard and Ali. Best ever period.

He was using intelligent pressure against Yuri Foreman Bogotazo. And he had to because Yuri was giving him a lot of movement.(the most movement i've ever seen any fighter give him and that includes a prime Carlos Qunitana, Zab Judah, and Paulie Mallinaggi) Logic tells me, if he still has the physical qualities that he had 3 yrs. ago,(which I think he does, I haven't seen any signs of deteriation) with more experience and a better trainer, why wouldn't he be able to pressure him? Cotto also has a big heart and will take many of chances in a fight when things are getting tough.

My point is, for as little as Floyd get's tagged, when he does; he surely does get buzzed. Corley tagged him and he was buzzed... Judah... and he knocked him down slightly but never counted. They couldn't follow it up because Mayweather is a defensive Genious... he hardly get's hit but my point is, for a fighter that doens't get hit often... when he is, he gets buzzed...

He can take a punch but I know what your saying though. Your saying how does he handle a fighter who can hit him consistenly on various occasions with big shots, kind of like what Cotto did with Shane Mosely.

I'm on the samepage as you with this and that's why I think you have a lot of fans bringing up the possiblity of a stoppage by Cotto because you are right, Mayweather has been shaky when he's been hit with big shots and Cotto will probably land more big shots on him than any other fighter come May 5th. (including Oscar De La Hoya)
