It's a toss-up between Usyk and Gassiev. Usyk has that almost never at a style disadvantage thing, but he doesn't seem to have that HW power. Wouldn't have been an issue in the 90's as he could just load up on steroids and HGH back then, but nowadays that might become an issue with the really big dudes out there. Gassiev looks to have the power and the toughness for HW, but doesn't have the style or nationality to beat the bigger names if/when it goes the distance. Breidis already removed the current WBA "regular" from his senses, but that's clearly below Joshua/Parker/Wilder level. Going Usyk in this.
Gassiev has the power and you need power to be a force at HW. He has also proved to be elite in many other areas. Its unlikely that Usyk carries enough power to be a big force at HW
Gassievs flurries and counters along with his body attack and fast hands, great beard and insane engine are all signs that 15/20 lbs of muscle and a little thicker upper body would make him an instant elite HW. His accuracy makes Bredis look sloppy and we saw how Bredis dissected and KTFO a top 20. Gassiev could be a great. I just think Usyk would be another Byrd. A styles nightmare but not able to close a show and take the judges out of the picture
Gassievs got better handspeed than Byrd has, better counter coordination and better timing than Evan Fields, and I guarantee adding 15+lbs fighting 225/235 would put him in the Parker-Povetkin range. More than enough to spark an opponent if not buzz him then finish him. Gassiev is the definition of a finisher.
Usyk has the movement, footwork, defense................Gassiev has power, would be strong and skilled...............it is difficult to pick, but I feel Usyk has the edge, will win the tournament, but both will have great careers at heavyweight.....................I like them both.............Usyk has more experience, which will be the difference, but they who knows what they will do at heavyweight.................
Usyks ring command and experience could Nick this fight, could even stymie Gassiev ala Rigo Donaire. But that's not a good indicator of there styles against 245 lb powerhouses. It's going to take a commanding win or a spectacular KO to give us a clear #1 CW. Also will be a precursor to HW success
