who I think would make great trainers when they retire:

bernard hopkins: having fought for 30 years he has unparalleled experience inside the ring. ha has faced numerous styles and found answers. one of the smartest fighters out there.

erik morrales: again very smart experienced fighter and has great technical skill and also a warriors heart. seems calm under pressure as well which would help in the corner.

andre ward: not a flashy fighter, very serious and seems like he's in it for the love of the sport, also very technical and versatile. already fights like an experienced guy, using every trick in the book.

their's more im sure but they're the ones that stand out to me.

i know great boxers don't always make great trainers, but these guys are all quite intelligent men who i feel would be good teachers.

Evander Holyfield could become a good trainer.

The Klitschkos. They've been in each others corners for dozens of fights, no other boxer can boast the same experience. Plus their overall intelligence is undeniable and they they have worked with ones of the best trainers available (especially Wlad with Steward)

No, he couldn't successfully manage his finances and that's a good litmus test for a man's intelligence.

yeah floyd would be good but im not sure he would have the temprament and patients to be in the corner. plus his head is too big to allow anyone in his presence to take the attention away6 from him! but for knowledge of the sport he's probably the best.

    Good thread.

Gonna put something different out there, Carl Froch maybe?

Maybe he won't translate into a great technical-trainer like Nacho Beristain, but he loves the sport, is highly-motivated and that could translate on a fighter. He would work them hard, and whenever I've seen him as a pundit I've been impressed with his knowledge and concise, logical points.

To box is one thing but to verbalise the knowledge and gradually pass it to another man is totally different. A boxer incapable of self-reflection will never become even a mediocre trainer.

yeah there both experienced and intelligent but im not sure they would be great at teaching any style other than jab and hold. there not the most versatile pair.

Yeah, Floyd definitely has the knowledge to be a great trainer..
Well.. If Floyd became a trainer all the spot light would be on him IMO..
