i forgot to mention rocky juarez.

out of all the superfeatherweight elite, he's fought mab and soto. marquez is fighting him next... i dont think he will fight pacquiao but i do see a fight with guzman happening down the line.

Because the LHW is a shallow division.

Considering Marco Antonio Barrera just had a close fight and fought a game fight against the current 3rd P4P best fighter in the world (JMM), I wouldn't consider him a gatekeeper. In my opinion, he still beats Valero, Guzman, and Soto. I would also favor him over Chris John and Jorge Linares. MAB showed he still had excellent speed, toughness, and overall ability against Marquez which is why I still think he's top 12 P4P.

Maybe I fail to understand gatekeeper probably. As I view it, its a fighter that will grant the "new" boxer alot of recognition to take on the top guy(s) of the division. As you can see, none of my chosen fighters are totally shot - they still hold alot of value - not just in name, but also in ability.

As I see it, (and I love MAB)MAB is not gonna be a WC again(as requested by OP), he is a top guy, but he is getting weaker by each match. I tried to pick good gatekeepers.

I would view a gatekeeper as a guy that REGULARLY fights up and comers, as a test to see if they can make the next level - not just once or twice.

Like a Guinn, Corley, Mitchell (now), etc. Larry Donald might be another good example.

Guys like MAB aren't really IMO, as once they fade, they'll probably only fight other faded names, or 1 or 2 fights. I mean guys that fight a lot.

    But that's just my interpretation.

You could be right. Maybe I aim too high, when picking gatekeepers.

I see your points (all good ones) - it all depends on each individual's definition or criteria of a gatekeeper:good
