Omitting heavyweight, which divisions are in decline, which divisions are on the rise?

I think Super Middle, Welter, and Jr welter are on the rise.

I think Middle and Light heavy lack talent.

Well these are not historical issues. Today's divisions rise and fall in pattern, as they always have.

What prospects at WW particularly impress you?

Middlweight is stacked with talent at the prospect level. Wait 1-3 years and it will be one of the best in the sport. Cruiserweight has very much evenly matched talent too but get´s overlooked because it isn´t heavyweight.

I think that as Mendoza already pointed out, light heavy weight is definitely in trouble. Its been a washed up division for years. Welter weight is my personal favorite right now, and feel that its actually loaded with talent with young men like Saul Alvarez, Andre Berto and of course currently has two all time greats holding belts. Heavy weight sucks. Jr. Middle is looking okay. Don't really follow much else these days.

In terms of what? Being historically excellent? Having ATG in the division? Being stacked deep?

HW - skill wise its lacking, but the best 2, are very good

SMW - I don't think its that stacked and is nowhere near the talent level of the 90s. Ward is the best of the lot, so lets see how good he becomes

WW - 2 ATGs in the division (arguably 3 with Mosley) together has to put it up there. Then add Margarito, Berto and it had Cotto/Williams makes it a very good historic division but not the best of all time by any means

140 - Deep deep deep Alexander, Bradley, Khan, Joan Guzman, Casamayor, Malignaggi, JMM (maybe), Maidana, Campbell, Ortiz, Kotelnik, Urango, Petterson, Holt, Hopkins, Torres and maybe Hatton

126 - Very hot division, lets hope the matches are made. Chris John, Gamboa, JuanMa, Vasquez, Marquez, Cabellero

Difference is these days the guys are actually fighting each other. Which makes it better than the 90s one.

You're confusing the value of the function with the value of the differential of the function.

I'm quite looking forward to all the fights at 140 as I'm sure we all are. I also reckon 126 has some really good talent at the moment.

I can see 147 dying a bit in the next few years, unless we see some of the 140 guys move up.

Here's a good but outdated account of talent at 160.

Middleweight could be a very good division, should the following come true.....

    1. Sturm and Sylvester stop hiding behind their titles and either lose or face the best.

    2. The young prospects face each other - at the minute, certainly the British/Irish ones are content to face a selection of bus drivers and schoolteachers.

What is this **** with Sturm fighting bad com? Sturm fought Castillejo (then beltholder, win), Griffin (Top10, draw and win), Sylverster (then European champ, now IBF beltholder, win), Ghevor (Top 5 contender, win). That´s nothing spectacular but this is the best the division had to offer outside of Pavlik, who was busy fighting bums and losing to Hopkins, and Abraham - which is a shame that this didn´t come off. How is this hidind behind his title? Because he fought some easy ones between?
And Sylvester? He just won the title. Okay, he had an easy defence but he faces Karmazin next.

I have seen Korbov a few times in the amateur and the pro's. He flashes pound for pound type of skills. Perhaps the next quality middle weight champion.
