Reminded me of a Middleweight McCall honestly. Some of those punches might have put Canelo down if he was in the center of the ring just from the force, but he stayed close to the ropes and rolled very well. McCall had that same ring awareness, and would let guys bounce him into the ropes.

Tillis-Tyson was thought of as a close fight after it happened, wasn't it? But you're certainly right that I'm in the minority. In that fight Tyson landed the very best punches, but Tillis landed more clean punches.

My other controversial scorecards would perhaps be Ward-Kovalev (also a fight that could have gone either way, but I had Ward just edging it), McCallum-Toney 2 (which I had for Mike by a pretty comfortable margin, even though most rds were close in that one as well) and Junior Jones-MAB II, which I had for MAB both times I've scored it (that one is worth revisiting, though).

But listening to the discussion, my Canelo-GGG card might put me even more in the minority than the above ones.

Canelo caught Golovkin with a number of flush, unblocked, well-leveraged power punches. Can't say the same of Golovkin. Canelo landed the punches that appeared most likely to stun or knock down an opponent.

I don't think there was much in it concerning who was most bothered, since they both took each others punches well. It seemed to me that some of Canelo's body punches got to Golovkin a bit, perhaps more than the ones to the head. But he didn't let on much, so hard to say.

But I definitely think Canelo landed more clean well-leveraged punches. Not by a large margin, but a clear one. And for me clean power shots by a good puncher is always damaging to an extent, even though they might not get a visibly reaction. They are certainly scoring punches.

I'm not sure anyone aside from Tillis and yourself has actually scored it for Tillis. But I might be wrong. 6-4 and 7-3 for Tyson seems a near consensus.
I might be falling for the Tyson hype here though.

I actually don't think a DRAW in this latest fight was too bad. Then again, I've said that about fights that over the years have become legendarily bad draws. Yes, controversy snowballs. Maybe it's all overblown. Back in 1999 several voices said Lewis-Holyfield was being overblown too.

For me, Golovkin had the edge but it was close enough to err towards a draw. If two judges had 114-114 scores I'd have raised an eyebrow but what we had was something other than that.

Golovkin landed a few that actually moved Alvarez or had his backpedalling in quick time.
Alvarez looked a little bit sick in there at moments, hoping the round wouldn't last too much longer.

Who did you have winning ?

I disagree there. I think Golovkin landed the more telling blows and a greater frequency. And jabs do count, especially if they are hard snapping punches that move the guy's head.

114-114 was a good score for GGGvsCanelo

The draw for Chavez vs Whittaker was bad because Whitaker should of had multiple points taken for low blows if not a DQ but without any fouls called by the ref Whitaker clearly won

Chavez - Whitaker is worse. No-one except Chavez's mother and Don King had him winning or even drawing. Quite a few are calling GGG close and some even scoring it for him. GGG was the aggressor and threw more punches but Canelo was more accurate with his and could have scored a bit for defense.

So at least Canelo had a bit going on even if the vast majority favoured GGG. Chavez didn't have much going on at all.

Leonard - Hagler doesn't belong in the same breath result wise via the above criteria. It was a close fight that has a more even split than either of the above two fights.

A post fight poll of 25 people covering the fight had SRL scoring 13 votes (more than double Haglers), Hagler 6 and 6 favouring the draw. Nothing like a GGG - Canelo or Chavez - Whitaker scenario.

I don't think the Canelo vs GGG fight draw outcome was that bad. Its just the fact that the one score was 118-110 in Canelo's favor. Whittaker deserved to win against Chavez.

Whitaker was truly, grotesquely robbed. Golokvin, in my opinion, wasn't.

Whitaker had his greatest night in earning a draw against the superior Chavez.

Not when it happened it seems:

Too bad about that scorecard. It really put everything on its head.
