I wanted to work the beer concession but I was too young, alas.

 

I was already a fan of Salvador Sanchez before I ever saw him fight. I got into boxing in 1983, the year after he died, so never saw him do his thing in real time. It wasn't until many years later really, that I happened upon websites that sold fight tapes (yes, tapes) on VHS and got a selection of maybe ten fights of his. About all we knew was available of his career, at any rate.

It didn't enhance my fandom really, just gave me more perspective and an idea of what I'd only read about for so long.

 

He was incredible.
