Rewatching it in HD, didn't seem like such a robbery. But still, its amazing how Canelo at such young age has such a strong influence, that he consistently gets at least 1 paid off judge, even against starts of Mayweather's magnitude.
I had him narrowly beating both guys. I get the impression a lot of these cries of robbery was from people not only saying Alvarez would be schooled by those guys but that he'd never fight them in the first place and people don't like the taste of that humble pie.
could be. On my scorecard, by the 7th round Lara was ahead 4-2, as I was giving Canelo all kind of credit for bodywork. Canelo only took 3 rounds from that point on, although the uppercut was absolutely vicious and possibly the best shot of the night. Lara should have won 7-5, but I can see it being 6-6 just for the ridiculous running and the 30 or so seconds in the end of round 12 where Lara was playing tag instead of boxing.
I can see Canelo getting the decision over trout, I felt it was a close enough fight to go anyway. The Lara fight was just a plain day robbery. Lara clowned him, made him look silly, Canelo only won 3 rounds and 1 of those was real close. The claim of robbery comes from Canelo losing the fight but being awarded the decision. Its not all that uncommon in boxing really. Canelo is suppose to be the future, the next golden boy. He is mexican, looks white, the view is he should appeal to both crowds and basically be the next de la hoya. And despite all the money tyson, lewis, holyfield and mayweaher has made, de la hoya is still the highest paid of all time. Its about money and the promoter influencing judges and buying them off.
Definitely Trout for me. Trout was throwing many different punches and was constantly active and trying. Trout threw nearly 800 punches in total against Alvarez compared to Lara.
I was impressed by the way Alvarez got into the fight. After 3 rounds I could see it heading for a Rigo- Donaire type schooling but Alvarez adjusted like a veteran.
Alvarez has a lot of potential, and his punches definitely have the oomph needed, he is just a bit slow on his feet and suffers from unusually short arms and bulky build. All wrong for boxing, great for wrestling.
