Exactly. Foreman's incredible performance vs Frazier magnifies Ali's win in Zaire. And the reason people were so dazzled by Foreman-Frazier is largely because of what Joe had done in the FOTC.

However, How's this for looking at your glass as half empty? Frazier beat Ali who had only just returned from a three and a half year layoff with two tune ups, and only three months previously had had a really tough night with Bonavena. And still it was close.

Then Foreman beat Frazier who was overweight, had been partying and only fought Daniels and Stander in nearly two years. Plus he had health problems with hypertension, diabetes (I think. May be wrong.) and his kidneys and was nearly blind in one eye. And even then, the so-called murderous puncher Foreman couldn't keep him down.

Then Ali beat a man who was mentally shot after the extra five weeks in Zaire by covering up and holding round the back of the neck until the less experienced traveller, who had no idea how to cope in Zaire and had no fight plan other than to swing for the bleachers in tropical heat, collapsed of exhaustion.

So all three wins were a bit pants.

That's not what I think at all, btw, but I have just typed facts. It shows that facts and stats are pretty useless when gauging fights and fighters compared to actually seeing the fights. That's why I tend to leave pre-1960 fighters alone on this board. I have enough trouble talking about fighters I have seen let alone ones that I only read about.
