    ...assuming Pavlik beat Taylor (and perhaps Duddy, too) and Dawson beat Johnson and Diaconu?

    I voted for Pavlik even though Dawson would be by far the tougher fight. Pavlik at this stage is the bigger name, Dawson will in time unify 175 I think but by then will be too late for Calzaghe.

    Uhm... Roy Jones

    Before anyone jumps on me: in 2008 both Dawson and Pavlik are more dangerous fighters but to Joe's legacy it's gotta be Jones' name.

    Between Dawson and Pavlik, I'd pick Pavlik as of today (before the Taylor rematch and Dawson-Johnson) as in 03. 02. 2008. Pavlik has the better record and his name is on the p4p list.

    "Bigger name" is a red-herring when you judge legacy wins.:deal

    According to what you yourself believe, you should have voted "Dawson" - because it's "by far the tougher fight".

    Pavlik will become a much better champion than Dawson

    Pavlik hands down

    NAME = red herring

    (Joe could beat Ali too...isn't he a bigger name than RJJ?)

    What do you mean by "better champion"? That he will beat better boxers and lose to fewer modest ones during his career than Dawson?

    It's irrelevant as Calzaghe will never be rightfully credited as the best fighter of his generation. Anything less is worthless for such a sublime sportsman.

    It's irrelevant whether Calzaghe will be credited as the best fighter of his generation, under any scenario.

    Legacy is one thing, paychecks are another. If Pavlik KO's Taylor again, that could set up the biggest money fight of the year against Calzaghe assuming Calzaghe can perform well against Hopkins. Don't think it couldn't happen.

    I think it could happen. I am not against it if Joe fights Dawson too. On the contrary.

    It is a hard question to answer, because we dont know how successful of a career Dawson will end up having.

    We don't know how successful Pavlik will become either! But in the end, that is, stricly, irrelevant. It matters only who is better when Joe has to chose between them, not who ends up having the better career.
