With Hatton fast becoming the new Naz (in terms of bulk and the comeback stories not skills) who is going to take his fans? Not talking the boxing fans who watch all fights more the ones who specifically follow him and love man city and the man of the people act. They are big spenders and loyal so surely Frank Warren or Ricky himself is sitting with a fighter now with years of panini albums trying to give them a Man City history lesson?

People like that just drift away from boxing, they don't deliberately look for another fighter to follow. David Haye could have a similar cross over appeal I guess.

I suppose it's a bit like what happened to everyone who loved Frank Bruno? They'll mostly disappear until someone else comes along who captures the imagination of the general public appears again, but i would think it'll be a few years yet

I think supporting a fighter is a bit like supporting a football team, it comes natural, I just dont think you can just change when you want, you become emotionally attached IMO.

True. I have no reason why Paulie should be my favourite boxer. He ain't local, he ain't that good. Bit like why I support Charlton. Although they're slightly local (35 miles away) but still there's teams closer to home.

    I'm just a glory hunter.

I like Paulie, I think the way he put himself across in The Magic Man documentary was good and his battle with Cotto in MSG was a great fight where I think he went to a place most fighters can only go once...:yep

Yeah, he's a good guy. He talks some trash sometimes, but that's why I like him, that's Paulie. He isn't fake, he speaks his mind ALL the time no matter what the subject and like you say, he isn't a poser, he's tough as nails, although his appearance and some of his personality says otherwise. I like his style too, the hairstyles, the long socks lol it's all good and only Paulie and a few others could pull it off, but some people wouldn't agree at all lol.

Do you like Charlton as well then? :think

There's plenty of Manchester fighters, if Murray fought at all or if Moore went on about going to the pub perhaps.

Don't think we will see the levels of support that Hatton got for a long long time, it got built up for a long time at WBU level and 'crossed over' for long enough to world class, would take years for anyone else to do that

These fans do just generally lose interest the problem is we let them. Fanbases dont happen by accident yes you need fighters who are exciting and have an appeal but really we need the marketing boys to sort it out. A good percentage of these fans can be retained if we built up boxing more. The fights Carl Froch are in are just as important as rickys but he gets about 1/10th the support. If we build up the boxing "event" you can then build the image of the fighter not the other way around

Spot on couldn't agree more, The cross over appeal is a massive factor though, Ricky had Cockney's,scousers and mancunians coming together:shock:
They just all backed him but it started with the City stuff!! David Haye ha everything going for him, Looks, can't half fight and has the talk too, David will carry the flag as long as he's fighting,

I think Mitchell can really appeal to the south too!! Im hoping they really get behind him at Upton Park..:goodHe's fighting top guys now and deserves the support of this country..:good
