As much as I hate to say it James Toney. The only person he probably should have lost to is Roy Jones below heavyweight. The skills he showed in the Jirov and Barkley fights were nothing short of breathtaking. He lost to a lot of guys he shouldn't have.

He was great as is but he didn't have the dedication to go along with all those skills.

Les Darcy - renowned in Australia and then stowed away in a steamer to the US. Before ever lacing up a glove on American soil he contracted pneumonia and died at 21.

Tim witherspoon could have been a top 5 atg. Don freaking king just couldnt stop screwing guys over. After the james smith and bruno fiascos his heart just wasnt in it. I mean, if i know im gonna be ripped off im not gonna do my best either. If he had a different promoter and was 100% dedicated he would have been even more amazing. A switch hitter with speed, power, good defense, good chin, body shots, combos, lateral movement and fast footwork, he had it all.

Zab judah is self explanatory. He even admits himself in interviews that he doesnt try his hardest if he isnt motivated.

Broner and victor ortiz. All the hype and talent in the world, but serious lack of dedication and heart.

    Nicholas "the quitter" walters

Gerry cooney without alcohol had the tools to be an atg. Tall, strong, hard worker, good body shots and tremendous power. Had he worked on his right hand and defense he would have been a formiddable opponent h2h.

Hard to Top Camacho. He was an other worldly talent. To this day the fastest hands in boxing that I ever saw. He was a champion but he could have perhaps been a top 10 all time P4P boxer in history.

My take would be from another angle & not exactly the greatest talent out of the amateur system like a Breland, but the most groomed/highly promoted & tightly managed guy; Gerry Cooney.

I think he was badly mismanaged. I think with DKP or Arum behind him all the way, things would have been altogether different results. Even Ross Smith could have built things. And maybe if Smith had become a super powerful entity, he has $$$ and repays Wells Fargo and it all gets swept under the rug----and zero prison time & Smith does not miss a beat in the boxing world.

I think Jones/Rappaport/Valle turned a $1 billion property into a $100 million dollar property. $100 million is nice, but everything Tyson got $$$ wise could have happened with Gentleman Gerry with someone else steering the ship. He sure did not climb up to anywhere near the top of the mountain & we could say scaled about 1/3 of it.
