This is yet another point I'm still undecided on. There are two ways to look at it.

For Cotto to break Manny down, he needs to get to his body. To do that, he's going to have to open up and do it in combination, starting behind his jab. It's possible Cotto can land lead hooks the way Marquez did, but it's a dangerous idea these days (Hatton found that out early). So looking at it this way, Cotto should be imposing his size and forcing Manny to trade.

However, Manny has the faster hands here, and Cotto is very open to being hit at times. He does have the habit of finishing combinations with his hands out of place. I also think back to Marquez II, where JMM started out boxing brilliantly, then got a little too bold trying to brawl back, and almost immediately got dropped hard.

Who do you see having the edge here? Do you think there is basically equal danger for both of them, or that one or the other needs to work harder to slow the pace?

Trivially, Cotto. He's naturally much bigger.

I don't think Manny wants to exchange with Cotto, that's suicidal !!
Manny just wants to sneak his leather in before Cotto can return the favor...

Hmm... I think he's going to have to fight a little more than he did with Oscar. For one thing, Cotto's not going to just stand there like Oscar did letting Manny basically hit the mitts with that pitter pat straight left (you know, not his real straight left, that little jab type punch he kept peppering Oscar with).

Personally I think its a falasy that Manny wants to avoid a war more then Cotto. He's the faster, more accurate puncher and he's got big power. Its true that niether man wants to slug it out with the other guy if they can avoid it. But manny has the advantage if they do. Also Manny's commitment to all out agression and none stop punching will serve him well if it does become a war. He's a bit of a spazz though so if things aren't going his way I can see it having a bigger affect on him then it would on Cotto.

I think Manny would be dumb to exchange with Cotto but it might happen. One very important thing to me was in the first round of the Hatton fight, the first time Pac caught Hatton flush you could tell he wasn't prepared for Manny to have that Pop. If you see Cotto look a little shaken from Pac in the first round expect it to be over early, cause Pac knows how to close the show and won't carry him.

I don't know about that. Cotto is pretty damned wily when he goes into survival mode, and Manny still has to be careful not to get caught.

    But it's possible. :good

I'm thinking Pacquiao with the hand speed , head movement , and better footwork.
    But I'm ususally wrong.

I think it is safe to say that the brainwashing has been done to full effect. I think alot of people are completely underestimating Cotto but there is no clear cut prediction for this one. I predict that nobody is going to get knocked out and this will end with a split decision.

Manny will win. He's the best in the world. Plus he's Filipino and our reflexes are magnificent.

Manny would hit hit with more punches but a body punch from Cotto would give manny a lot of damage.

    Big exchanges favour Cotto considerably.

If I hadn't been on the wrong side of damn near every freaking split decision so far this year, I'd definitely have a nice little wager on Cotto +250. But this is a really, really interesting fight with almost too many scenarios that could play out. I'd rather just enjoy it than sweat out a bet.
